I never said it did. Just pointed out the costs will be prohibitive as a result.

Well, first off that's completely ridiculous. But the reason is because these reactors are much smaller so if they need the same security detail those costs will be far higher ler MWh. Nuclear is already too expensive, the last thing it needs is more costs.
urgjotonlkec t1_j56i3tt wrote
Doesn't really matter since they won't change the security requirements so these are DOA due to costs.

More like a weak correlation. More working class people are Republicans than Democrats, but not by some huge margin.

It doesn't really tell you anything because states aren't monolithic. For instance black men are the most susceptible demographic to heart disease and the states with the most black people are almost all Republican. However that doesn't mean all the black men in those states are Republicans.

The majority of murders where demographic information is recorded are committed by black people and there's also an incredibly strong correlation to being young too. Young people and blacks aren't exactly right-leaning demographics.
It's pretty reasonable to assume that a significant majority of murders are committed by Democrats.

That's a pretty ridiculous statement to make given the demographics of gun violence.

That's not even close to describing how useless it is. Just to get the PERMIT is generally understood to cost roughly a Billion dollars.

The war on drugs ended a long time ago. What we need is a new one. Mexican cartels should be classified as foreign terrorist organizations and the US military should kill every last one of them. The statistics clearly show these cartels are 1000x as dangerous as all the stupid Muslim groups we waste all of our effort on currently. Drug trafficking should carry the death penalty.

That argument gets trotted out a lot, but it doesn't actually make any sense in the current environment. Real rates are currently negative (inflation is higher than interest rates) so actually future profits are worth MORE now.
urgjotonlkec t1_j4rm0bq wrote
Feels like a lot of this is just perception driving reality. Tech stocks are going down due to the Fed which is causing tech companies to cut jobs. It doesn't really make much sense because their actual business isn't affected by the Fed, just their stock.

He's obviously just pandering for subsidies, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. It's not just chips though, a lot of raw materials are involved which China has been scooping up while the US sits around with our thumbs up our butt.

No, because if you have no household income you will qualify for 100% subsidies by the FAFSA.

Well yeah, that's the whole point of having a means tested benefits program. If nobody qualified it would be pretty useless. But you can get subsidies up to an income of like $200,000.

That's nonsense. The average individual with a college degree earns over a million dollars more in their lifetime. The average student loans are only $30,000 and that's ignoring all the people with no loans at all. There is no better investment a person in this can make than their own education.

So basically it only applies to people with rich parents who are dicks and won't help them pay? That seems like a pretty esoteric concern. Especially because those people could get loans and pay after they graduate and have a higher income.

This chart is idiotic because if you're on minimum wage you will qualify for considerable financial aid. Also, some of these states offer free community college to everyone so there's options other than just the state university.

I've seen them on other lists. Being a cop is more dangerous than the average job, but nowhere near being one of the most dangerous. And, as already mentioned, the overwhelming majority of deaths are due to vehicular accidents.

A job which is way down the list: being a cop. And most of the danger there is just from driving around a lot. Just thought I'd mention that because tens of millions of people have more dangerous jobs, but aren't allowed to use that as an excuse to kill people any time they get nervous.
