Policy makers, absolutely.

Everyone else is just a cog in the system though.

Public companies have to have their stock prices go up. If they don't investors will put their money into companies who's stock prices do.

All those other people: CEOs, managers, etc... If they don't help do that, they're gonna get replaced with people who do.

It's an ugly system, but it's the best we've come up with.

You know people used to move across the country for employment, right?

Hell, I work with a shitload of people who have moved half way around the world for better employment.

People are clever: they can figure shit like that out when they need to.

It's impossible to "just pay people more". That creates a wage and price spiral that wipes out the gains from increased pay.

The option exists to convince employers to lower their margins, but that requires completely rewiring our entire economic system. That's never turned out well.

Capitalism: it's the worst economic system except for all the others.

Ok. So lets play that out.

Pay those folks more, sure, but then... suddenly the cost of building anything goes up 100%. Because this is the real world and you know that builders aren't to take that out of their margin.

And suddenly, even though those construction workers are making $100k, they still can't afford to buy a house.

No.

Because dirt bike riders don't ride dirt bikes to ride dirt bikes.

They ride dirt bikes because it's a fun "fuck you" to the normies.

The fact that it's dangerous, illegal and inconvenient is the point. Or at least part of it.

That's the problem with all the people trying to find ways to accommodate the riders. They don't want to be accommodated. They WANT to stand out. It's part of what makes the whole thing fun.

An argument could be made that "well, if we make it safe and boring they'll lose interest". But that assumes effectively being able to get them to go to the place where it is safe and boring. And in case you haven't been paying attention, the the only thing the BPD is effective at is submitting overtime slips.

So... don't waste the time and effort. If we want these folks to stop riding dirt bikes we need to show them that life is better when they don't.

At first I was like "Why do Starbucks employees need to unionize? It was an easy job when I had it 20 years ago."

And then I realized all of the ways that the company has gone all in on becoming Milk Based Fast Food: app purchases that overwhelm the physical space, drive throughs, the end of "the third place".

So good for them. Stick it to the man!
