Well if you broaden the lens to nano-technology then there have been impressive applications, such as mRNA Covid Vaccines and a even a few Cancer success stories.

Well the theory is that nanotechnology eventually leads to atomic level construction, even shape shifting becomes possible. Check out foglets.

I wonder if GPT-4 is when the world starts really paying attention.
Then the conversation might shift meaningfully to what will be possible by GPT-10 or GPT- 20.

I guess they would have brought in volunteers and conducted an experiment as to whether they knew they were speaking with AI or not.
