When we do buy cop cars, they should 100% be electric.
That said, we should stop replacing them so fast. Currently we replace them every 3 years! Make that 7 at least.
Edit: A way higher % of officers should be walking beats instead of driving anyways.

I have, though not in every instance when i’ve been asked - regardless, one would think the burden was higher for the police to help people than for a random person.

We send our kids out to get concussions (not to mention countless repeated sub-concussive impacts) all the time because people love american football, but now one’s a reason to get all het up about someone with the temerity to resist arrest i.e. demonstrate how cops are bad at their jobs?
¯_(ツ)_/¯

Except the police exhibit as much contempt for the law as normal people, if not more. I was on hoyt street walking with my kids last weekend. Some twerp pulled his suv right up onto the sidewalk just south of fulton. I said “what are you doing bro, this is the sidewalk?” And he replied “did i hit you? No, so go on.”
So when i got to schermerhorn two blocks down i saw a cop and told him “hey, some jerk just pulled up and parked on the sidewalk two blocks back, can you please help?” And he could not have cared less. As i walked away i didn’t know what to tell my kids - why do we have police if they have no interest in addressing wrongdoing?
In thinking about it further, it made sense the cop didn’t care because they park on the sidewalk all the time and break traffic laws with impunity for their own convenience (rather than only when responding to emergencies).
But people see the police’s actions and take their cues from them. If our law enforcement personnel are themselves lawless, why expect different from our citizenry?

“Clearly severely injured”? I didn’t see where the post article indicates the injuries were severe, what gives you that impression.

I know practically this is a sensible position, but given how our police act* i have a hard time stomaching it and really can’t blame people for physically resisting. If the police want unquestioning compliance, they need to earn unquestionable respect. Unfortunately, as a group they not only are very fare from having earned such respect but don’t even seem to want to try.
*(eg if what actually happened is that he asked the officer to use their phone to help find his own lost phone [exactly the kind of help a regular citizen might expect an officer to happily provide] and they told him to fuck off, as some witnesses reported in the post story; alternatively, we can all think of other extensively reported examples of police misconduct)

Reply to comment by arbrady in FDNY wants to up the cost of ambulance rides by more than 50% by NYY657545
It seems likely that these increased fees reflect increased real costs for the city.
in late 2021 nyc ems employees agreed a new contract covering june 2018 - july 2022. The back pay for the new agreement’s raises gets paid out lump sum.
The point: The city quoted the net cost of that agreement for fy24 as $73.7 million. The post article we’re commenting on says the new fees will raise ~$16 million in fy24. So even with raised fees we’re still $57 million short of covering our new labor costs.
And remember, now they’re out of contract again, so you can already begin factoring in the eventual raise they’ll be getting with back pay to july 2022.
Beyond that ambulances themselves have been in drastic shortage, which probably increases our maintenance costs substantially and increases the per unit cost of any ambulances we are able to buy.

You have zero basis for speculation about whether or not gender bias is part of the chiefs’ resistance to kavanaugh’s leadership, but you’re happy to immediately rule it out? Okay sure buddy.

First, the overwhelming majority of cases are handled via plea bargain.
Second, this one guy got a plea because as the article states he didn’t start the fight, left during it, and has no priors. Other defendants from this attack are facing more serious charges.
Third, dov hinkind is like a compass that always points south - wrong on virtually everything.

Maybe if you had any clue how our government or criminal justice system operate, you’d know that we have different district attorneys for each county and bragg is not the bronx da.
The actual bronx da, darcel clark, has spent her entire career as a prosecutor and judge, so she’s not regarded as “woke” by anybody.
As usual, folks with the kind of trash opinions you (struggle to) articulate here show themselves to be out of touch with reality.

I honestly don’t see the appeal of drag queen story hours and have never taken my kids to one. I also don’t see the appeal of church and have never taken my kids there.
I don’t turn out to protest either event, but churches are way more prevalent and way more associated with actual child abuse.
Really though, these protesters are way out of line and need to be slapped in the face by reality. First off, their conduct is inappropriate and they should face official sanction. Beyond that, their priorities are absurd. They’re flipping out about something completely harmless, and meanwhile we as a species are busy actively destroying our habitat and putting the viability of our continued survival at risk.

Nypd’s budget is bloated, especially given their performance.
E.g. they buy new squad cars every 3 years whether they need them or not, and meanwhile to actually do their jobs we’d be better off with them walking or using bikes/scooters/etc in most cases, especially since they’ve been doing virtually no enforcement of traffic violations post-pandemic.
Yet for some reason they always escape budget cuts while we chop away at libraries and social services.
