Reply to comment by [deleted] in This idea of building outdoor malls with a parking area in the middle by Sayoria
There were no parking lots in the middle of Shopper's World in the 50s and 60s, nor the 70s through the teardown/rebuild in the early 90s. It used to be basically a rectangle of stores on two levels, anchor stores on the ends, open air to a large courtyard inside, with a sea of parking lot around it. It had grass, pathways, bushes, trees, fountains, and had seasonal items like Christmas decorations and a petting zoo in the courtyard.

You don't have to leave your passport with them - you own it, or I guess technically the US government owns it. If a country requires the passport details for purposes of registration, stand there until they give it back to you. If they refuse, ask for the manager. If they still refuse, find a different place to stay.

Reply to comment by Fun_Top5285 in I get to experience -30 degrees for the first time this coming Saturday. Do I need to be concerned with my well freezing? It’s a standard drilled well with casing and cap. Any advise from my northern friends? Thanks! by MicasNoggin
Nest thermostats don't shut off the heat if people aren't sensed, it turns it back to the configured 'away' temperature. Getting past that, the default safety temp (temp to call for heat even if the thermostat was manually set to 'off') is 40 degrees. They would have had to intentionally disable the safety temp setting for this to have occurred. That is a fault of the user, not of the thermostat.
We've been using them for years - they save about a tank of oil each year, and we've gone on week-long vacations in the dead of winter with no issues of frozen pipes.

Negative - I had a PO box in a neighboring town until one opened in the location nearest me. You do need a verifiable physical address to get a PO box however:
REQUIRED
Whether you apply online or at a Post Office, two valid forms of identification (one photo and one non-photo) are required when you obtain your keys or combination at the Post Office where your box is located. You must present the IDs at a Post Office. One item must contain a photograph and one must be traceable to the bearer (prove your physical address). Both must be current. Acceptable forms of ID include:
Photo ID Options:
■•■ Valid U.S. driver’s license or state non-driver’s identification card
■•■ U.S. Armed forces, government, university, or recognized corporate employee identification card
■•■ Passport, passport card, alien registration card, or certificate of naturalization
■•■ NEXUS or Matricula Consular card.
Non-Photo ID Options:
■•■ Current lease, mortgage, or deed of trust
■•■ Voter or vehicle registration card
■•■ Home or vehicle insurance policy
Note: Social Security cards, credit cards, and birth certificates are not acceptable forms of ID.

Reply to comment by Realistic-Step2618 in Why does this state seem to lose power so frequently? It’s always related to downed power lines from trees? Or is this a grid issue? by JayBisky
Pointing out a fault is not a need to relax, it is being grounded in reality. There are more solutions than the one of burying the lines, such as removing trees that encroach on the lines. One is exponentially less expensive than the other. Expense is a factor regardless, since costs will be passed to ratepayers. This isn't a decision in a vacuum. If it wasn't, why not say the solution is to develop wireless power or put a fusion reactor in every home?

The state is not fiscally responsible for power company infrastructure, so I'm not certain why you are saying "NH won't bury the power lines." Cost estimates to bury lines are between $100,000 and $1,000,000 per mile to bury the lines, dependent on what they have to be dug through. Based on the reported 18,000 miles of residential lines on poles, that would be $1.8 billion dollars to $18 billion dollars to accomplish. Not going to happen.

I can't speak for providers other than mine, but Unitil in at least the seacoast has crews (usually Asplundh) cutting trees back constantly - I see them or the results of their work all the time. They called 3 weeks ago asking to trim my trees away from the power lines, and it's a small apple tree.
The town and/or homeowners/landowners have to allow the utilities to do tree trimming work. Can't fault them if they are asked and told no. The large storm in December was the first time we've lost power here for any length of time since the last huge ice storm in 2012 I believe it was.

Just to make certain you are aware, the Downeaster will not take you to the airport. It will take you to North Station, then you need to take the Orange (or Green) line to the Blue line. Blue line goes right to the airport.

I used a storage unit for approximately one year - I quickly left an apartment/housemate situation due one of the housemates devolving into lunacy. I ended up renting a single room in someone's house, and things like hand tools, car parts, and kayaks and such that had lived in my own storage section had to go into storage. Additionally, things like the couch and tables and such that I owned that were in common areas had to go into storage as well. The storage unit situation lasted about a year until I bought a fixer-upper of my own.

Only buy the cards where the entire cardboard back panel of the card holder has to be removed to be scanned for purchase, as even the PIN area is covered on them. I generally find that kind of card at the displays of gift cards in Home Depot. That, or you can buy the gift cards online directly from banks.

CVS owns Aetna - you can have any prescription filled anywhere, but if you are on a maint medication, as determined by at least 3 months of continued refill, you are required to buy from CVS mailorder. You can continue to fill elsewhere, they will just not pay for any portion of your medication if you do.
Happy to be rid of Aetna.
