Reply to TIL that a groom from Canada rescued a drowning boy from water during wedding photo shoot by Neonwhitelion
Happened about a 20 minute walk from my home.
That little pond in that park is deceptively dangerous, sadly someone in a wheelchair rolled into it and drowned. (edit due to not being sure of specifics of what directly lead to this tragic drowning).

Reply to TIL that after being initially cancelled, the second season of ‘Jericho’ was only reinstated after fans sent 20 tons of nuts to CBS studios in a nationwide protest. by GezimS
Loved that show, glad it was at least able to get some closure after being cancelled with a cliffhanger.
The final episode of the (very short) second season was going to result in the same aftermath, but they filmed two versions of the fate of my favourite character. In the unaired version Hawkins is captured to set up to next part of the storyline - the aired version features him talking with Jake after completing a harrowing and critically vital mission.

Reply to TIL intercontinental ballistic missiles use celestial navigation to check and correct their course (initially set using internal gyroscopes) while flying outside the Earth's atmosphere. by Captainmanic
Hopefully, a real (end of the) world scenario doesn't test out how effective it will be.
On that tangent, the SR71 Blackbird reconnaissance plane used a high-tech sextant behind the cockpit similarly by using the stars to navigate at the upper atmosphere.
