A jar of Vegemite will probably last you for life. Even a small one.
What do you want? It's all very well me saying a RotoVelo but if you don't have any use for a velomobile that's not a helpful suggestion. They are BIFL, even more so if you never use them...
Mongrel boots are awesome, but if you don't want work boots same deal... they're an expensive, not very decorative use for a second hand kangaroo.
There's Australian made burglar alarms. They're BIFL in a different way, but do seem to last forever. Friend has one that's 20 years old and still in use. Do you want a burglar alarm?
On "the other BIFL" side, Randall Organic Rice make crackers and stuff that are very good. If you're really keen you could buy the whole farm!

Reply to My father has developed asthma in his mid 50’s and I think an air purifier in his bedroom would be really good for him. Do you have any recommendations? by C_A_N_G
We went through these with the bad bushfires a few years ago. My main suggestion is pick one where the filters are readily available. Ideally you'll buy a lot more filters than purifiers...
We shopped on ebay, and bought several smaller ones from one of the more recognisable Chinese brands (seems to be a newer model but same filters) that takes a filter that seemed to have more than one manufacturer. I bought extra filters with them, then a year later when we had an idea of how many we used/how long they lasted did a bulk order (10!) and three years later they got us through the worst of the pandemic and I still have a couple left.
(if you want VOC etc removed you need to get activated charcoal filters, plain HEPA ones are not enough - HEPA is a particulate standard)

Reply to Guess which can opener still works? L to R- 30 + years old, 3 years old, 6 months old … planned obsolescence or crappy design (of course they increase in price tag from L-R) by Torvabrocoli
I hope you can still buy the one on the left, I too have one like the two that suck and recently I performed my annual can-opening ritual (try can-opener, swear, rummage through camping box, find little fold-out MRE can-opener, struggle round can with that, say "I really need to buy a proper can opener"... forget the whole ordeal until next year)

Reply to Anyone ever truly stainless steel wire pegs if so thoughts? Are there other pegs should conconsider? by Significant-Ad6946
I find the wire ones twist on the line denting the clothes. That annoys me. The Pincinox ones don't do that and also grip better. I switched to them about 10 years ago and haven't bought pegs since.
I did do the evil thing of giving my mother and her sister "sample bags" of about 20 pegs. They both ended up buying more of them because having some good pegs is way more annoying than having all shitty ones.

Bosch 900 what? Bosch is a brand, they slap it on everything from power tools to car parts to burglar alarms.
Sounds like a dishwasher? I'm really impressed with my cheap benchtop one, but for full size at the cheap end whatever Aldi sells is probably worthwhile. Just make sure someone near you services them, a quick search normally reveals the local brand website for whatever it is.

Reply to container to store (5-10lb) bulk dry food, such as beans and rice? by skald89
I use second hand plastic barrels/drums. They come in 200/220 litre size (40 gallon?) as the easy to search for one, but also in sizes right down to ~20 litres. Both screw top and lock ring, but it's very "what's in stock" where I live. I search online then look for "other items from this seller" if they're on ebay etc, or just browse the website.
Barrels tend to be rotomoulded and thick walled, so sturdy. Depending on what the contents was you may end up with "infused with the aroma of olive oil" or whatever the first year or two. But there have always been 'clean' options when I've bought, just the smally ones are cheaper :)
Sellers like this: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-seller/Drum/1021976616/date/1
Also, might be worth looking at "molecular sieves" if you want to keep the contents dry, they're the modern version of reusable silica crystals.
