Wow. That is interesting. I very much want the HD600, but too expensive for me [let alone the Focal :-)]. I have the 400SE with me now but i can not listen to it. It is too sibilant and heavy for me. I am using a 3 times cheaper Superlux 672 instead, which i love. I also had the 560S, TYGR 300, DT 880, Meze 99 - i could not accept their sound quality after getting used to my equalized, ear-pad-changed 672. This shows that one's preference can override the price comparison.

This is not basic. This is end-game. This headphone is my dream but too expensive for me, let alone those devices under it. Enjoy it :-).

I am just a lay speculating.

Next technical step is that headphone manufacturers will measure their headphones and publish the measurements on their websites. They will also publish the accompanying correction files for software equalization.

The step after that may be measuring their headphones individually. It is not very expensive. And gives great value by smoothing the highs.

What is the worst thing by DSP?
Why not for all headphones?

I think: for every instance of headphone: i should be ably to read a unique id from it, go to the manufacturer's website and query the equalizations files to some targets specifically for that instance. I know that their measurements are not perfect either, but still the best that an average user would get otherwise.
