Context: I’ve seen many ultrawide angle photos of the Hoh Rainforest and wanted to experiment with a different perspective. I don’t own a true telephoto, so I ended up using my standard zoom at 105mm. I tried multiple angles, but I will say composition at Hoh is very difficult. Despite what social media posts, the forest is populated with evergreens and is not as bog-like as what you see online. The gnarly leaves and branches make the photo look distracting and it is hard to frame. I used two tree barks to frame this photo, but if you’d like to see my ultrawide angle photo, it is on my Instagram. I usually like to have a clear subject in my photos, but with this much going on, it’s probably best to call this abstract landscape photography. Thanks for viewing and if you want to see more of my work, please check out my Facebook page and Instagram.

Context: Sol Duc Falls is one of the world's most iconic and over-photographed waterfalls. This was my most anticipated shot during my Washington trip. There were a good amount of people on the trail, including many large groups of families. I recommend arriving early in the morning to beat the crowds. On the day I went, the weather was overcast, perfect for midday waterfall scenery. The bridge I took this photo on was super muddy and not sturdy at all. It is highly recommended to use a tripod. At first, I thought to myself, “oh, this is an easy composition”. I then looked closely at my photo and noticed that the leaves were blurry. To ensure that my leaves were sharp, I needed to take an additional photo at a higher shutter speed since the leaves were moving. I blended the slower shutter speed and the faster shutter speed of the leaves to create this image.

I am planning to post more of my work asap! If you like my work, please consider following my Facebook page or Instagram!

Context: There was SO MUCH traffic when we entered the park, so I had very high expectations of how the rainforest was going to look. In the past, I never felt like I was good at compositions in the forest and I was rather nervous. When we arrived inside the park, there were a lot more evergreens than I anticipated. I thought the entire forest was going to look like a bog since that’s what I saw on social media. Overall, I wish I could have spent more time to find more compositions. I feel like editing a photo containing tall trees while on ground level is incredibly difficult. The extraneous leaves and branches always make the picture look messy and it is hard to frame. I usually like to have a clear subject in my photos, but with a lot going on, it's difficult to differentiate what the actual subject is. I tried to lead the viewer's eye into the frame using the bark since there is a lot going on with the leaves and branches.

I’m starting to post again! If you like my work, please consider following me on IG!
