Reply to TIL that modern store mannequins can now record video, sound and automatically analyze demographic data and customers reactions to products from facial expressions analysis by human8264829264
Disclaimer: one tech start up has created a preview demo model that can do these things and now they are trying to find retail clients who will be interested in swapping out their current mannequins with these.
These aren’t in mass production and this is a glorified ad for the Italian company producing these.

Reply to comment by VoyBoyTA1922 in Amazon workers in the U.S. and 30 other countries plan Black Friday protests by AmethystOrator
> A few years ago I worked packing items for Amazon during the Christmas season through an outsourced employer. … Once the season is over, the demand drastically decreases: there are just not that many objects to pack and everyone's productivity decreases as well. Then they start firing everyone.
Yeah dude, that’s called seasonal work. As in, you work for the season. Amazon calls up Manpower or another temp agency to get extra people for the busy season. Then when the season is over, they end the contract. The “temp” in “temp agency” stands for “temporary”. It’s temporary work.
It’s really nothing to do with personal productivity or automated metrics. Amazon may choose to cherry pick a few all-stars to stay on full-time, but most of the seasonal workers will get terminated after the season. That’s just how it works with these “outsourced employers” (i.e. temp agencies)

I wonder who pays if one of them is horribly injured in a fall. My guess is that their insurance policy won’t as it wasn’t a scheduled, signed job.
Also your homeowner’s may also refuse to payout as again, it was an “under the table” deal with non-bonded laborers (check your policy).
This seems like a good way to lose your home in my opinion.

He was a strikeout machine and had a very long career, but also never had a season in which he was the best pitcher.

Reply to Melissa Villaseñor on Why She Left Saturday Night Live: "I Had Little Panic Attacks" by ebradio
My wife and I played a game where we’d do “over/under” over how many times Melissa would even be seen… even as a background character. We stopped playing when the answer would always just be “0”.
We got to the point where we wondered why she was even still listed in the credits.

And they were prearranged and fully planned in close conjunction with the postal service. It’s not like they licked a stamp and stuck the kid in a box.
The parents worked with post office staff to choose the appropriate day and route well in advance.
