He has never been one to thrive under constraints, so perhaps Gorillaz maybe has just run its course.

Considering Albarn has been making music for one act or another for 30+ years, one probably has to hold their expectations in check. He's been a part of some great albums, it's unlikely he'll have any more that top what he's done in Gorillaz, Blur, or God Save the Queen (and anything else he's touched) in the past. Just doesn't seem to happen for even the best artists.

Angel of Harlem by U2
The song is primarily about Billie Holiday with direct references to her as Lady or Lady Day, and Angel. The song also drops references to John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

I have a different translation with similar amounts of foot notes. The first time, I read them all because it was school (just the Inferno). However, if your translation is like mine, the purpose is to explain what you might not understand or give a bit of background to characters there.
I'd say they are optional. When you find something confusing, then read them.

Daughter - Pearl Jam... I've always imagined this is a theme to the song.

Yes... I have seen him with a drummer once, but many other times solo.
Fiona seems to prefer things on her own as even her albums have little accompaniment. I've only seen her once. Not sure she even toured on this last album.

Andrew Bird often just backs himself by looping multiple instruments together. I've seen him at venues for 1,000+
Fiona Apple.... usually just her and a piano (and a guitar when I saw her)

Qobuz and Deezer would be good options as might Amazon. They all have CD or better quality without the questionable quality of Tidal.
I personally don't mind Spotify, but they're not lossless; however, my ears can't tell.

It's a bit over, but Animals by Pink Floyd comes to mind as a nice short album.

Nine Inch Nails, Lights Out Tour in Sacramento. Second to last show.
Reznor was treating this like he was retiring and it would be his final tour. He wanted to make a concert video, but his record company wouldn't let him, so he had professional footage and audio of the last few shows recorded and uploaded the raw footage and audio to anyone that wanted it. Some talented fans put concert DVDs and audio out there with excellent mixing and engineering, and I often relive that concert.

I feel like it is a matter of perspective and what one likes. I personally like the last Daft Punk album most, but I'm not well versed in that kind of music, and I don't know that I'd argue it is better (but it could be).
Brian Jonestown Massacre really haven't been much different than your argument about Gorillaz. Of course, like any act that's been around there will still be great songs, but the albums have hardly been that consistent. Aside from the recent album, which is a bit better than other recent releases, I feel like the past 10 years have been up and down. And, I guess that's how I feel about a lot of bands that have been around for over a couple of decades.
Doesn't mean Albarn won't make another great album with someone, just means I don't expect them to all be great.
