My parents house used to be off grid with solar, when they connected they kept the system and it charges a battery bank before going to the grid. It’s a bank of car batteries that can run the well pump, hot water heater, wifi and a few lights. They could go indefinitely if needed. I’m sure there are more efficient battery systems now. They also have to turn it on manually.

From what I could find only Wyoming received less in Covid relief funds than Vermont, so while we got a lot of assistance it’s not much as all in context.

The govt will never dump big money into a rural mountainous state to build rail. If they won’t do it in Texas or California it’s not happening here.

Beyond that, how do you get the right-of-way for a commercial line? You’d have to shell out a ton before you laid any track.

I wish rail travel was more feasible here but I often see these proposed rail maps that do t take into account much beyond “it would be nice if there was a train from here to there”

Tunnels are expensive. A quick search indicated $250 to $500 million per mile in Europe and more in the US. We are a rural state, transit tunnels make zero sense.

There is an rail tunnel in Burlington between winooski and the waterfront but it is 350 feet long and was built by hand in the 19th century.

We always assumed it was the same small group of bad actors. It’s off the beaten path so not a lot of people would think to hunt there and the house and fields aren’t visible from the road. Especially in the 80s and 90s we had some break ins we are sure are connected. Beer thefts and turkey season coincided.

About 10 years ago the trapper called and he offered to police things in exchange for trapping. He figured out who dumped gut piles and got them to clean it up, and spread the word to avoid the house. He’s great. Though we still catch guys on game cameras in places where they can for sure see the house which still seems a little intrusive to us.

Definitely, but hasn’t happened like that in my experience. My family has had a big lot with a cabin for 40+ years and have had only one guy track us down to ask to set some traps. Otherwise we’ve had guys shoot turkeys from the porch and when we weren’t there, leave gut piles in the back 40, and show up on game cameras very close to the house. Had someone set a tree stand you could see the house from as well.

Check VT Fish and Game to confirm where you can and cannot hunt. I am not a hunter but understand that unless it’s posted no hunting, or has no trespassing signs you can hunt private land without permission.
