I find that how much I like a movie usually coincides pretty close to RT ratings. Pretty much any movie I hate is below 25% and almost any movie I love is above 75%.
People love to dismiss it, but I find it helpful.
That said, Metacritic ratings make me think "seriously?" though. It takes a lot to break 80% there.

It rates a lot of great movies oddly low. Something can be considered an all time great, and it will be at like 68%.

I think not fully understanding David Lynch is part of the appeal. It adds intrigue and you'll keep thinking about the film to make sense of it.

God damn. So many child actors just sound like they're reciting something they memorized. He's on a whole other level

That's one of those movies that I don't remember watching but somehow I remember the plot. I must have watched it when I was a kid.
I guess it's kind of a sports movie but adapted to video games. And it's basically one giant Nintendo product placement

I haven't seen it, but a ton of sci fi has physics that don't make sense like that, The Expanse being a major exception. I think Star Trek TNG has an episode or two where they're stuck without inertia

I recently rewatched the Rocky films for the first time since I was a kid. The boxing choreography is hilarious. It makes it look like boxing is a sport where they just take turns punching each other in the face and the concept of defense doesn't exist.
