"pushing the boundaries of religion" by participating in spiritual psychedelic ceremonies like humans have done since ancient times?

Our modern clean-and-sober ethic is the historical aberration. This is just people trying to cram an intrinsic human behavior into a social construct built against it.

The buoyant force in a liquid is equal to the weight of the displaced liquid. A bigger volume has the potential to displace more liquid. The answer to both of your questions is yes: in both cases, the volume increases, displacing more water and increasing the buoyant force, while mass remains constant. Eventually the buoyant force surpasses the weight of the object and it'll start floating.

The naval strength was already there; the Vandals just came in and ousted the Roman governor and said "hey north African navy, you work for us now!"

By this point in history the empire did not have very good cohesion, so there wasn't really a unified and effective "imperial navy" that could coordinate a retaliation; any force which might have done so was busy elsewhere. The empire was being attacked from all sides by different groups of barbarians and the Muslims. For those sailors and marines who were in North Africa when the Vandals came, the easiest and safest thing to do was to continue going about their business as if nothing had changed. "I, for one, welcome our new Germanic overlords!" If you don't piss off the new boss, you get to keep your job.

I feel this so hard. I got myself a pair of vans a few months ago, thinking I was treating myself (I'm usually a cheapskate who buys shoes at Walmart or Payless). Literally less than a month I was already starting to see cracks and splits in the rubber. I was so disappointed and mad. I've had $20 Walmart shoes more durable than that.
