Reply to Ok, who here actually LIKES touch controls on earbuds? imo they're one of the most annoying things ever, cause I'll be trying to pull out a bud, for example, and then the darn thing starts skipping through music. by [deleted]
They're a necessary evil, I suppose. The earbuds are so small, how else are you going to control them without touch controls? I can't imagine trying to work with physical buttons on something this tiny.
As long as they're sensitive enough to register a deliberate tap on the body, but not so sensitive that just adjusting/shifting the earbud in your ear triggers them, then they're ok for me.

Never felt like my Sony WF-1000XM4, Sennheiser MTW 2 or Audeze Penrose were too loud... in fact they were a good reminder of what volume level they are currently set to when putting them on.

Reply to what features could future amps/dacs have that can make them better than what's available today? by 2ndRoundExit
For dac/amps with preamp outputs, a separate volume knob for main out and headphone out would be nice... like how most audio interfaces do.

They should be tight enough to not freely rotate on their own, and require some deliberate effort to rotate. If you aren't constantly rotating them every now and then, you should be fine.

Besides latency, I think the software would also need to know the frequency response of the headphones in order to send a correct inverted signal to the output?
I'd expect dedicated ANC headphones have their ANC tuned to their specific audio characteristics, and even more advanced implementations have dedicated mics inside the earcups to monitor the process in realtime?

The same way audio interfaces can offer "zero-latency" monitoring that would typically suffer from lag if the input needed to be routed to the phone/tablet/pc and back out.

I've only got one single dd iem currently - Fiio FDX (which is essentially an over-blinged FD7 ๐ ๐ ). Unless you also count earbuds, then add the FF3 to the list.
There - not any one of your usual suspects ๐
