Depends on location. Center city may be rough. The burbs are nice but also it can be a drive to get to stuff. Maybe consider Bethlehem or Fountain Hill in your search as well.

Good to know. Last I knew it was blocked off or something bc ppl kept dying. Makes sense it was destroyed since blockades probs didn’t do much.

True that! It’s a cute little town with a lot to offer for the location. Even the big cabelas over the hill in Hamburg is an attraction to see.

Oh no :( It may not be open then. I had no idea about the truck.
Edit: it is open! It opened just this past December. Seems to be doing okay since the accident.

I like Port Clinton. It is a little town that the highway runs right through. The Port Clinton peanut shop, the Port Clinton hotel, Appalachian trail access, peace rock.

I love Jim Thorpe. The Mahoning Drive In in Lehighton is the bomb. That whole area really turned out to save it a few years back when it was going to be turned into a solar farm or something.

Other commenters have good points on location. It really depends on what you’re looking for in terms of housing and income. In addition to what you listed Cressona, Schuylkill Haven, Jim Thorpe, Orwigsburg, can be nice and I’m sure have options for your price point.
You should also consider your race and the political landscape in which you’ll be living. PA has sundown towns. In Hamburg for example, there are signs for at least one local white supremacy group.

My suggestion is to consider rent on a short lease (6 months) in an area you’re thinking of living in long term. Get a feel for the area and housing market, and maybe get a better interest rate too. If you’re at $130k out of necessity this could allow you to save up to afford a larger down payment or to put towards home repairs. I got a house at $150k and it’s eaten so much money on repairs.
Idk much about either areas you listed in the post. Best of luck in your move!!

I second Bethlehem. Musikfest, Godfrey’s, Funhouse, Artsquest, and Windcreek events to name a few. Surrounding you’ve got Easton and Allentown too both of which have solid venues.
