Reply to just got my first audiophile headphones (Hifiman he400se) and honestly, I hate them by Line6Guitarist
I had a planar magnetic headphone. It sounded god awful from one dac/amp I had. Even though I could get them loud enough, no problem. Them I tried on a much more powerful dac/amp and they sounded awesome! I remember there being a website where you could calculate how much juice you needed for specific headphones. In my experience it's not about how loud you can get them, there are other specs at play. Planars are power hungry, and in my experience need a specific powerful dac/amp to get a full bodied and clean sound.

I currently have KPH30i, KSC75 and Porta Pro. I'd keep the Porta Pro.

I've been in kind of a similar situation as you. However, I have not tried the big flagships, and only owned one pair of Planar Magnetics. But other than that, over the years I've owned probably around 30-50 headphones total. Never really found that exact sound I was looking for. Been happy with a lot, but. There was always something missing. My most expensive cans was around 400 dollars. All the ones I've owned have been over-ear and almost all open-back. I remember trying on-ear a long time ago, and I swore never again. I guess they had too much clamp. Then however, because of all the rave. I decided to try the KSC75. My mind was blown away regarding the sound quality for so little. The sound signature I already knew wasn't to my taste, but the sound quality for such a low cost. I was hugely impressed. I've always heard about the Porta Pros for years. But them being on-ear, I've never cared to try them. Trying the KSC75 changed that. People said they fdidn't find them uncomfortab le, so I took the plunge. I'm so happy I did. The sound is what I've been looking for all along. I now have 3 pair and 2 KPH30i's. The Porta Pros being my preffered because I like the comfort better, but they sound very much alike. Awesome cans! I always say to people instead of starting out getting a pair of HD600's or something like that, they should try one of the 4 amazing Koss headphones they make for a cheap price, and see if they are happy with that. I sold everything else, and only have Koss headphones now, and Monk Plus for train rides/bus, since they don't really leak sound compared to the Porta Pros.

You can also buy knock offs for almost nothing on Aliexpress. :D Don't know if they are better than what you can find on Amazon though. Probably the same thing. :D

I just googled. Damn they are expensive as fuck. :D https://www.thomann.de/gb/akg_k_712_ear_pad.htm
Perhaps just buying the K712/K7XX is better value, lol. Unless you can find a better price. But. The pads are fucking awesome! Super comfortable, much better than the K702's in terms of comfort.

Can things even be in total sync? Now I feel like researching this. Maybe one day when I'm not so tired and lazy. :D

Have you ever tried the cheaper stuff, like Koss Porta Pro or KSC75? You might just be happy with those.

I like the medium setting, and for me it stays in that position. People often complaints it doesn't but for me it does. :D Sometimes I have it on light, then I can wear it all day long and never have a single amount of discomfort. But I prefer the sound when it's either firm or middle. :D Merry christmas!

Monks are okay. And cheap. I tried many other cheap chi-fi earbuds, I found Monks to be the best. Then I tried their expensive Zen model, and I actually still preferred Monks. But I gotta say. I don't really use earbuds, unless I'm in a train or bus. For potable use I use Porta pro. The sound is not even comparable, it's so much better. It can be folded together so you can have it in your pocket, just as you can with a set of earbuds.

I can also switch sources with the push of a button. Also powerful enough to be preamp for my stereo. Importen things for me. Before this I had to constantly switch cables.

Reply to Best closed back headphones in your opinion? by iMagZz
I'm not into closed backs, so haven't tried many. But the DT 770 sounded pretty good to me. And man, those pads! Stock top of the head makes my head hurt though, but easily bought top pad from Sennheiser glued on top and it's fixed. It might nokk look til great, but I've used this on several headphones.
