Yeh sometimes the mere promise of what the next bool can be sounds better than the current one cause it is filled with potential and excitement and really not just the next book but mostly next anything can seems a lot more alluring but it can also be a sign that you’re more exited about the next book and/or a bit bored with the current one if it’s not a constant occurrence but happens sometimes with some books.

They are great, also usually a lot less heavy than hardcovers which is a lot more convenient for thicker volumes but unfortunately they get worn out super quickly even in one read you usually can see the spine beginning to crack and the edge of the pages becoming a little twisted, so they are not the best for rereading or keeping a collection but they do feel really nice.

Unfortunately I feel like goodreads in not really that great for anything except for keeping track of what you're reading or following someone whose taste you trust, lists and recommendations are just not accurate and it seems like most times there's no connection between what you rated high and the recommendations you get except a similarity in genre. Average ratings and awards are also mostly a popularity contest limited to reflecting a particular section of readers.

For books older than it of course, from books that were influential in a literary sense like Iliad and Odyssey or Shakespeare or Lord of The Rings to those that had an impact on the society like Plato's Republic or Marx's works or The Prince,(Or the five religious books of the most influential religions for the epitome of social influence) to the scientifically influential books to a tons of other examples, but for the newer books I can't think of anything and I think the current volume of available books and how easy it's to access them and find your own niche although a very welcome change makes it hard for a single book or series to stand out as much.

Like it’s not really visually pleasing and it damages the book when the same function be achieved with using a book mark or removable stickers, that said what some else does with their own books is none of my concerns maybe for them it creates character or is just more convenient or whatever so as long as you’re not doing it to other people’s books or library books, you do you!

It's a great idea as a concept but in practice I feel like that the sheer quantity of the existing books makes the possibility of a random book being something that I really like really low.

Maybe give audiobooks a try, helps with not having to have the little inner voice read along, depending on what triggers your negative reactions and is it the content of the books or the actual act of reading you can try reading different genres too, read something funny and lighthearted for example or a good general knowledge nonfiction. Also at the end of the day it's just a hobby like many others, no need to force yourself if it's affecting you negatively, you can stop reading for now and return to it once you're feeling better about it and it's a more enjoyable experience for you.
