Ok, that’s good. A lot of these bad actors can glean a ton of info by just “dumpster diving”. Someone with an old statement in hand can rattle off transactions and sound very convincing .

Do you still get paper bank statements mailed, OP?
VictorChristian t1_j6mhup9 wrote
That usually only shows up with a dongle that has an Ethernet port. I see it all the time on my ipad.
i know fancy adapters exist for iphone/lightning but maybe its just a bug that a reboot will clear up.

You typically cannot change anything with a phone that belongs to someone else and youre just an authorized user on.
that said, IGCSE… you’re British, I take it? The laws may be quite different there and you may have more leverage. Here in the US, a kid can’t make changes to an account they’re not an owner of (The person paying the bill has authority)

Reply to Cooling Phone with Water? by Thundering_Love786
I mean this seriously - you should look into a larger phone like the Pro Max.
thermal envelope is bigger. The mini has the tightest internals so its gonna heat up faster since its the same CPU.
theres really no good answer for your problem but its an intriguing one :-)
Cooling down a component cpu like an intel or Ryzen involves thermal paste between the die heat spreader and heat sink/fan (or de-lidding, in extreme cases) - not something easily accomplished with a mobile phone.
as dumb as this sounds, maybe just point a regular desk fan at yourself/phone while gaming. The airflow will help a bit (but not as effective as your water boarding technique … LOL, i kid, i kid.)

Reply to Do you find "Dynamic Island" useful? by Notiz25
Very useful. I use safari to listen to YouTube videos when out on a walk/run and i can start the video, swipe to close safari then tap dynamic island right away and resume playing from there.
advantages are twofold - ads are skipped since YouTube seems to only do ads when safari is inn the foreground and two, screen goes off and phone is in standby so it sips battery.
love it!
edit: you can indeed do this with your current iPhone. This is more an iOS “hack” but DI’s interface is slightly more convenient - until Google modifies YouTube and stops it LOL

OP focused on Manhattan because like most non-New Yorkers, they prolly don’t know the outer boro’s even exist.

Manhattan just gets the most press. 99% of the people not from NY have no clue how NYC works.
To give OP a little credit, of the five NYC boro’s, it IS the most densely populated but it’s dead wrong to consider Manhattan only when talking about NYC.

Indeed! Also, Bombay, Calcutta, Shanghai…

Manhattan is not a city. It’s not even the most populated borough of NYC. It’s not even physically the biggest boro of NYC.

Reply to Unlocking Verizon iPhone by Margaretttt-
He scammed you. He wanted a new phone but still had money left to pay on this 13 PM he had with Verizon and didn’t want to wait (or wasn’t willing) to pay it off.
So, it’s not as bad as being sold a stolen device but it’s pretty useless to you - the scammer got what he wanted - money for a phone he no longer cares about so he can go elsewhere.
Always meet face to face with these kinds of transactions - meet in a public place like a police station (many even have areas set up for online transactions) and ask the seller to wipe the phone so you can activate it. If he’s unwilling/unable to do that, something is up.
Once the phone is in your iCloud account, give him the money with confidence. If he puts up an argument, just say he can have his phone back and he can reactivate with his account and restore.
A legit seller should have no issues with this,

Something seems to be shorting out. The 6S is an old device and after years of pulling it in and out of your pocket, it’s likely collected some gunk in the port.
Make sure the port is clean. This isn’t super easy but some compressed air shots can loosen stuff up. If you get in there with a toothpick or something, be very careful, once something breaks, it’s done.
once clean, as others have mentioned, use quality earbuds. Plenty of companies still sell the 3.5mm plug style earbuds.

I realized a while ago that I actually use much less data than I originally thought. Not just for this trip - just generally.
month to month, I find myself only using about 7 to 10 gb a month.
that said, i wish I had needed more data on my trip to get a chance to test the Airalo top up feature.

So, when i had both eSIM’s active, i went to Settings… Cellular Data and in Cellular Data options, i saw a “use this line for data”. I picked the Airalo line for data and all data used the Airalo line.
They have a tutorial video… https://www.airalo.com/help/getting-started-with-airalo/how-do-i-install-an-esim-on-my-ios-device?gclid=CjwKCAjw2OiaBhBSEiwAh2ZSP0uqMdgPY8qwp0i-lEEsh7CQuW_1pnjuQRR6pDKSBkR7pK-fvQJFGRoCPuQQAvD_BwE

i did not. I used the phone like i normally use the phone. Lots of pictures, lots of browsing, Apple Pay and a whole lot more Apple Maps since i was in a city wholly unfamiliar.
I also used FaceTime - but mostly audio, I did use video to talk to family for a few minutes. What’s app also connected but since the Airalo eSIM does NOT have a phone number attached, what’s app popped up a message saying the network has changed and if i would still like to use my original (US) phone number. I tapped, “yes” and my aunt actually called me unexpectedly once one whats app but i called her back from the hotel wifi - she’s a bit of a talker and i was worried about battery LOL.
At the end of the trip at the airport, i had about 500 MB left and i tethered to my MacBook to see how that worked and burned thru about 490MB… as stated earlier, i was left with 11MB and shut everything down to board my flight back home.
It really worked very well. i was very impressed.

From what I’ve read about Airalo, they basically resell MVNO plans - so It’s kinda like resell of a resell. The names on their site barely make sense - I mean, “Change” for an American ”provider” that uses ATT and T-Mo towers. Never heard of that company before - sounds kinda made up.
I got a “Van” eSIM for Sweden and asked hotel staff who they were and people behind the desk though i was just messing with them.
Given all that, it’s not surprising we probably get deprioritized a lot. I can see Airalo going to a local MVNO and buying up all the 1MB/s minutes they can get and sell them to us LOL

I did a Euro trip last month - Sweden, specifically and decided to try the eSIM option in my 13 Pro Max (it can do dual eSIM). The SIM tray was empty.
I chose to buy an eSIM from Airalo so i downloaded the app at home here in the United States and chose to install the Sweden eSIM thru the app directly. There are options to scan a QR code but I chose the direct method.
The Sweden eSIM installed and I even activated it in setting but it went into SOS mode since there were no local towers to connect to. It didn’t roam.
Once I landed at Arlanda International Airport, I turned off airplane mode and my t-mobile eSIM connected and I got the “welcome to Sweden” text from t-mobile. I then activated the Airalo eSIM and it took a minute (we were approaching the gate at this point) and it also connected - to Telenor, a local Scandinavian provider.
Now, I saw that split signal icon on my 13 PM. After I disembarked, i found an empty chair to sit down and change the settings to use the Airalo eSIM for all data and the T-Mobile eSIM for voice and texts.
Connection was at LTE for the whole trip. I burned thru all but 11mb of the 3GB Airalo eSIM by the end of the week long trip.
It was a great experience and gave me much confidence for my 14 PM.
If it’s a serious concern, tho, Apple still sells the 13 and we can pick up older models thru refurb.
That was my eSIM experience :-)
