Reply to TIL "pruney fingers" are not caused by your skin swelling from absorbing water. They're actually caused by your nervous system constricting the blood vessels in the skin, causing them to shrink and the skin to fold over them. by OverdriverJC
For all of my early life, I got super pruney when my hands got wet. Bathing, swimming, doing dishes, etc. Much moreso than the rest of my family or my friends. And it stayed that way for a long time afterwards and felt funny.
Then at age 30, I was diagnosed and treated for diabetes, and suddenly the hand pruniness went completely away. I only get it at a very small level now.
It's one of a ton of improvements to my skin that I saw after I started being treated.

I'm pretty sure my mom had this pattern on a table cloth in the 80s when I was a kid.

I've dealt with anxiety and depression since I was a little kid also. I'm sure it all gets mixed together in the recipe to produce who I am.

A lifetime of things outside of my control going against me has certainly help mold me into an exceptionally cautious, risk averse person. No doubt.

Reply to TIL "A Christmas Story" was initially overlooked and only became a classic after Ted Turner purchased the rights and began airing it yearly on cable TV. by habalushy
My parents started watching it on VHS in the mid 80s. I hated it as a kid then, and I hate umit now. I've never understood the obsession.

Reply to TIL that from 1991 to 2007, tobacco conglomerate Philip Morris Cos. successfully marketed Capri Sun to children, based on their executives' experience selling tobacco to young people. by 99-bottlesofbeer
As a kid in the 80s, the worst part of Capri Sun was how small they were. Between that and how "thin" the liquid is, they were miserably unsatisfying to me even as a child.
