Quite odd. But fasting does have the super adamant minority of people that are off putting. Like with cross fit, vegans, and even some audiophiles. I intermittent fast and it helps me a lot. But most people tell me I’m weird for not eating until 3pm haha

Shoutout to 18:6 intermittent fasting for keeping me sane these past few years. Helped me lose some weight a few years ago. Ofc it’s CICO, but IF worked best for me.

Nice! Can't say I listen to EDM or movie scores all that much. But the other genres I do. My personal favorite movie score is Mad Max Fury Road but I'm also a slut for drums so it's up my alley.

Thanks for the thorough right up! What kind of music were you listening to when testing it? And what do you normally listen to?

For my own curiosity, can you give Pneuma by Tool a listen? Start at 9:30 mins in to save some time and through to the ending. Does anything sound off to you?

Np! I also wear them to concerts and nights out. Pretty handy and I wish I could convince the rest of my friends to wear hearing protection.

I use these - https://eartune.com/collections/shop/products/eartune-dream-u. Very comfortable and don’t fall out when I sleep on my side. Which I always do.

So you have the Expanse hooked up to the speaker taps? What are you using to hook it up? Something like the HE adapter from Hifiman? https://store.hifiman.com/index.php/he-adapter.html

A lot of non-hi fi audio people think the hallmark of a good system is how loud it can get. It's the same with stereos. And psychologically, louder things sound better (up to a point obviously).

Reply to Why not EQ? by ChromicClaw2
I don't EQ IEMs since I use those exclusively on-the-go and my iPhone + dongle don't allow EQ. My openback headphones at home I EQ because I already have the equipment (computer as my digital source).

Do the tips have filters in them? I know the ie600 did and they altered the treble response. These look like the same tips so my money is on they do include filters.

Yeah Mahavishnu Orchestra is a fusion band (so jazz and rock mixed) from the early 70s. Listening to them got me into prog weirdly enough. And then from there prog metal.

-
Ticks and Leeches by Tool
-
Lateralus by Tool (definitely listen to the whole album haha)
-
Right in Two by Tool
-
Pneuma by Tool
Non-Tool:
-
One Word by Mahavishnu Orchestra (my favorite drum solo in all of music)
-
Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin
-
Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden

I never EQ'd them since I use IEMs for portable use and just use a dongle and my iPhone. But I'm glad to hear the issue with drums can be resolved!
Lack of fatigue is the most important aspect for sure
TheFrator t1_j5x1he5 wrote
What is your impression of drums with them? Like real drums not drum machines e.g. Reflection by Tool , Rust in Peace... Polaris by Megadeth and Sunsets by Airbag.
Drums sounded wrong to me. They had an unnatural and plastic timbre caused by how fast the decay was. Using Crin's definition of plastic timbre describes them perfectly: > > Plastic timbre: Characterised by a hollow sound, sometimes also describes as a certain sense of weightlessness in the notes. This sometimes happens when the decay is unusually fast though is also exacerbated by a higher-frequency-biased tonality. Balanced armatures are its biggest offenders.

Otherwise a great set for $80. Nozzles are a bit large btw at 6.5mm.

Gotcha. The photo makes the dial look like it's at 3 o'clock. Once you get balanced you'll need a lot less gain with the Jot 2.

How loud do you have it?
I have my Jot 2 (with balanced in from a Bifrost 2) at 12 o'clock in low gain with my LCD-5. And this is with a -12 dB headroom for my EQ.

It’s a tool not a solution. CICO is all the matters. I will say it’s very difficult to eat more than your daily allotment of calories in a a single meal or in a 4 hours time period. The problem is the zealots (like with most lifestyle trends) who treat it like the 2nd coming of Jesus.
