The label "Eastern Europe" is an outdated relic of the Cold War as it does not correspond with any cultural or geographic boundaries. As an example, Greece is often not classed as "Eastern European" as it was part of the Western Bloc during the Cold War even though the Byzantine Empire was the largest cultural influence on Medieval Russia and Greece was under Ottoman rule for centuries.
Slovenia is another great example as the Yugoslavia was only part of the Eastern Bloc until 1948 when it split with the Soviet Union and was therefore spared the worst of communist rule in Europe.
Either way, this is great news. Let us hope that Slovenia can convince other ex-communist countries to follow suit.

Well, Seymour. You are an odd fellow but I must say, you steam a good ham.
