Reply to Approaching Nine Months Since Tennessee’s Abortion Ban, DCS Remains in Disarray by SnarkOff
It’s like no one reads history. The Romanian orphanage scandals aren’t that long ago. When the Ceausescu regime in Romania banned abortion and birth control in an attempt to raise the population levels they ended up with hundreds of thousands of kids their families couldn’t afford to feed.
Those hundreds of thousands has babies that turned into millions of kids clogging the underfunded state orphanages, kicked out at 18 with no education, no social skills and no prospects. Crime, drug use and related issues skyrocketed.
They moved into the sewer system for shelter and promptly started popping out babies of their own. In the sewers.
It’s a human rights nightmare to this day.

Yeah, I discovered the real thing after moving out on my own and haven’t touched the fake crud in decades. Breakfast as a kid was usually a sugar loaded breakfast cereal that turned the milk weird colours.

Weird, my Dad always used corn syrup on his waffles and pancakes. I never liked it, there was something missing in the flavour of it. Never found it sweeter than real maple syrup. I don’t drink pop either.
I wonder if this has been looked at in the context of adhd. The foraging mindset described is very similar to someone with adhd in a state of hyperfocus. Time blindness, impulsivity, risk taking and blocking out anything that doesn’t relate to that one subject/activity/object. A state of obsessive monofocus that disregards all else.

Simple version: if you don’t feed your gut microbes they’ll start chewing on you to survive. Eat your soluble fiber and resistant starches.
Yes it makes you fart for the first week. It goes away as your microbes adapt to a preferred food source.
Source of info: I used to have leaky gut syndrome.
Main symptoms: anxiety, depression, constipation alternating with diarrhea.
Fiber supplements currently in use: unmodified potato starch (cheap), inulin fiber derived from chicory (flavourless, non thickening, disappears into my morning tea without a trace) and xylitol sweetener which gut microbes gobble up like soluble fiber (yes xylitol is toxic to dogs as someone always points out whenever that word comes up).

If you are referring to sushi it’s necessary to freeze it to a certain temperature and keep it there for a while to kill off any parasites.
“Sushi-grade- Freezing and storing seafood at-20°C (-4°F) or below for 7 days (total time), or freezing at-35°C (-31°F) or below until solid and storing at -35°C (-31°F) or below for 15 hours, or freezing at -35°C (-31°F) or below until solid and storing at -20°C (-4°F) or below for 24 hours.

Reply to ELI5: Why do book adverts so often use review quotes rather than plot/character/setting detail? by VertigoOne
Those review quotes are utterly useless as far as i’m concerned. 99% of the time I’ve never heard of the reviewer or just dgaf.
If there’s no synopsis or it’s not already part of a series I read, they lose a sale because there is nothing there to catch my interest.

Reply to Does having history of heat illness (especially heat stroke) make one’s body more sensitive to heat? by [deleted]
Kidney injury can result from repeated rounds of heat stroke and dehydration. The dialysis and death rates among sugar cane plantation workers and migrant crop pickers increase in hotter years if they work in inhumane conditions lackng sufficient rest and hydration breaks. They’re as adapted as can be and still have problems from repeated exposure to extreme heat conditions.
