the water doesn't have to be that warm before it fails to cool your nuclear reactor down effectively. This is already happening in france https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/aug/03/edf-to-reduce-nuclear-power-output-as-french-river-temperatures-rise

Nuclear power will also stop working as the planet warms, because the temp difference in the water source you are using to cool the plant will not be enough to keep the plant running. This already happens in some southern nuclear power plants in the US.
Can't cool your reactor if your "coolant" water comes in too hot.

these dollar stores are predatory and basically suck all the money out left in places that have already been sucked dry by walmart.
This must be a very poor area.

no joke, commuting is some of the most soul crushing time you can spend on this planet. For those interested in slightly off kilter suggestion, get a bunch of people you like and buy a house together. Splitting a mortgage 5 ways for a multi-family is pretty affordable (at least compared to the rents these days) you can live in the city, pretty close to your job, walk or bike there, and honestly if you like the people, and have a lawyer work up a little agreement its not so bad.
Does this fix anything with the larger structural problems? No it doesn't. Might it get you a nice place to live close to your job...maybe?

i have had this shit hit me while I am on my bicycle, its not fun. Thankfully it was all fluffy stuff when it happened to me, but I couldn't see shit, and it was pretty nasty.
I can only imagine what would happen if a big sheet of ice slid off a van or something.

a lot of seals in Peru have been coming down with bird flu, so don't mess with any marine mammals you find on the beach, if you are worried you can call the police, but don't get near them.
This guy is probably just resting though.

Reply to Old Christmas trees could be saved from landfill to make renewable fuels. Research has found that pine needles from discarded Christmas trees or other sources could be turned into renewable fuels and new products, with the potential to reduce the UK’s carbon footprint. by MistWeaver80
many (maybe even most) commercial Christmas trees are absolutely covered in chemicals to keep them looking top notch for the holiday. Just something to consider when you are thinking about what to do with it after its two week stint as an ornament holder is done.
Personally I would like to see this tradition change in some way that leaves all these trees growing in nature providing habitat. Maybe folks can adopt a wild tree and take care of it for the year or something...I don't know I have never invented a holiday before.

the real issues with these devices is that they are proprietary devices with insecure wireless connections, so if the company goes out of business your heart shuts down, or if they don't have good firmware your heart gets hacked. Same is true for insulin pumps, and a whole host of other medical devices.
There are just some things that shouldn't be private IP, or proprietary software, or even comodified under capitalism. This is one of them.

i guess they need more grist for the mill, just don't spend more money than you can afford. Hopefully this whole thing blows over soon and we can get back to reality.

i have yet to see a reason why blockchain needs to be involved in ANY project, let alone this one. The article states that this is a much simpler and robust system, no block chain needed for this or anything else really.

you can't just boil a river...what are you talking about? You can't just destroy every river that a nuclear plant is on, the fact that the water is too hot to return to the river...means its too hot.
