Check out the Wikipedia article for Biblical Archeology. Then compare it to, say, Mormon Archeology.

In my visits to Scotland and Ireland I was introduced to many historic sites that were destroyed by Cromwell, and one cathedral up in the Orkneys he couldn't quite be bothered to travel to.

This is a fine example of how governments cannot GIVE rights, they can only choose to honor or subvert the rights you already have for just being a person.
