A lot of main characters in shonen are the least interesting characters in their shows, almost by definition.
A lot of them have no real character flaws, to the extent that other characters improve upon themselves just by being around them. Further, they often have special destinies and origins, making their accomplishments feel unearned.

They should reboot Oz. TV hasn't traumatized me enough lately.
Then, they should reboot Red Shoe Diaries, which was on after Oz and was the only reason I, as a teenager, sometimes watched Oz in the first place (but Christ did it turn out to be good television).

Scene: Daytime, jungle. Character A comes staggering out of the jungle after a freaky-deaky island experience involving visions, smoke monsters, dead people, or the Others. Since the survivors have to work together to survive, it would probably be prudent for them to report this kind of stuff to the group.
Character B: What happened?/What's wrong?/What did you find?
Character A: Nothing.
Character A walks away. Character B shrugs and asks no follow-up questions.

I always liked Jack. He was a serious guy, who tried to do the right thing.
