I totally agree. I found the music video for Black Licorice on YouTube one night, and had to listen to everything else of theirs I could find lol. Been a fan ever since. I saw them live at History in Toronto. It was a great show, they are a lot of fun.

Running for home from Beautiful Midnight by the Matthew Good Band.

The whole album is fantastic. "Running for home" is much softer and quieter than the rest of the album, especially the song before it, "Born to Kill", which ends in a very dramatic fashion. "Running for Home" contrasts it very well.

The song "Giant" from "Beautiful Midnight" by Matthew Good Band. The cheerleaders doing the K-I-C-K-A-S-S cheer, then the guitar feedback comes in followed by the heavy drums. Amazing start to an amazing album.

For example, a set of Pearl Exports (good for beginner / intermediate drummers) can be had for under $1000. Pearl uses some excellent hardware for the price. There's lots of options/brands though.

$3000 can get you a really nice kit. But it's not necessary.
