In case you don’t want to watch the video, Diego Luna grew up watching Star Wars in Spanish. He heard R2’s name as “Arturito,” which is the diminutive version of Arthur. So like “Lil Arty.”

Cops “invented” their own Purple Heart in 2013. And you don’t even need to be injured for it.

Okay, so … yeah. Not a real one.
Apparently the LEO PH was “invented” in 2013. And they don’t even need to be injured for it.

But not a real one, right? The Purple Heart is a military medal.
> The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after 5 April 1917, has been wounded or killed.
Did these chuds go down to the local trophy shop, and and have the Little League trophy guy steal some valor for them?

Reply to eli5 what is gaslighting? by beep_boop_3324
Lying to someone specifically in a way that makes them doubt their own memory or reality. Usually a long-term thing.
For example, if you and I are alone in an elevator, and I fart…. then blame you. With only 2 of us, we both absolutely know who farted, but maybe I can convince you that it was you. Even if you 99% know that it wasn’t actually you, that 1% doubt is the start of it.
Next time something happens, I blatantly lie again and get you to 2% doubt the obvious reality. On and on until you don’t believe your own brain.

Reply to comment by bobjoylove in ELI5: What does it mean when a company buys back stocks and why is it frowned upon? by lilly_kilgore
To add on, occasionally there’s a public money angle that makes it even less appealing to the general public.
A company is failing, but deemed “too big to fail,” so Uncle Sam gives that company a bunch of cash to keep them running.
6 months later, the company is doing well again, has a ton of extra money, and starts doing buybacks. Meanwhile, all of the citizens whose taxes paid for that bailout get nothing.

We got Rock and Roll instead.
In the BTTF timeline, Marty goes back to the 50s and very publicly defeats a group of bullies with the power of skateboards.
Marty then goes to the high school dance and plays an aggressively mediocre version of a Chuck Berry classic.
These two events warped the priorities of that universe. Skateboards became the next big thing and led to the creation of hoverboards, while Rock n Roll languished.

Reply to ELI5: What is a nightshade? Why do we consider them different to other fruit/vegetables? by assignpseudonym
Nightshade is just a family. A bunch of plants that share genetic similarities.
We consider them different for the same reason that we consider cats different from dogs. Cats belong to the Felidae family (aka felines), and dogs belong to the Canis family (aka canines). Those families are used to describe the basic characteristics of all family members.
For plants, the Solanaceae family (aka nightshades) have different characteristics from the Brassicaceae family (aka Cruciferous veggies)
One of the characteristics of the Nightshade family is poison. You can avoid the poison if you are careful and eat the correct part... but some people avoid the whole family all together.

Also do yourself another favor, visit the Safari Park. It’s a whole separate location, about 45 min north of the Zoo.
It’s got huge enclosures where the animals are free to roam a bit more. They even have a tram ride around a GIANT wide-open Serengeti. They’ve got rhinos, zebras, giraffes, gazelles, etc. all living in harmony in one big enclosure.
They also did a cheetah run, back in the pre-covid days. They got a cheetah to sprint full speed on a track, right in front of you. They had a normal domestic dog run the course first, just to help calm down the cheetah. The whole affair got shut down for a bit, might be back open now.

Legally, no… unless this look is her trademark.
Compare Steve Jobs and his turtlenecks. If someone used that outfit for a character, there might be some money involved. But this lady probably has plenty of other outfits she wears regularly, none of which are tied to her identity.
