Point I’m getting at for modern apartment layouts (2 bed, 2 bath, open kitchen, washer + dryer, amenity building), JC is still far cheaper.
If the layout and features don’t matter as much, you could probably find something cheaper but not comparable in NYC. Thing is lots of the far away points in Brooklyn and upper Manhattan are further away from downtown JC

I moved from a 2 bed, 2 bath 1100 square foot apartment in Dumbo. Rent was going to be $5400 if I renewed and the building had 0 amenities.
I got a similar apartment in JC for $1000 less per month plus tax savings. My girlfriend and I were both able to cancel our equinox memberships ($180 a month) as well. Worked out to approximately $2000 month saving between the two of us. We signed for 2 years

If rent is too high in Jersey city or Hoboken, try moving to Manhattan.

Depends on your landlord. Have you been a good tenant otherwise?

Ya housing in NY / NJ is a function of when the lease was signed (i.e signed a rent stabilized lease is 1985). Signing a new lease is a different game entirely. There’s lot of survivorship bias online in comparing apartments, I’m sure someone can chime and talk about how great a deal they got.
This is probably underpriced if anything, someone could rent the apartment and spend a weekend painting and $500 on some basic upgrades like cabinet handles, fixtures and toilet seat then be left with a great place.

Guys - this is what affordable housing looks like. There’s only 1 unit cheaper in the entire downtown on Zillow, and it’s a studio.

This is one of my big compliments about downtown JC. There’s only two “open” gyms, the rest are personal training or class based. Base is $140 month, but everyone in the tower it’s located in has free access so it’s always packed.
Club Metro is the only other option, but there’s no free parking at the mall and it’s not very convenient from my apartment.
We really could use an LA Fitness, Blink or Retro fitness.
