Consumer Reports online might be available to you via your library. Hardcopy definitely will be.
Currently their top 10 top rated for reliability front load washers are all LG. This agrees with my experience as I have been using an LG washer for 14 years with zero problems.
There is less data for top loaders, but Speed Queen wins for agitator machines and LG sweeps the HE/ agitator free category.

Front loader spins faster, it gets more water out so you get faster drying.

All-Clad was pretty special when they introduced tri-ply cookware in 1971, but today lots of companies are producing sets that are functionally the same and cost a lot less. Check Costco Kirkland Signature, Ikea, Sur la Table.

I researched that a few years ago and the opinion was that early circular saws were really heavy, so you didn't want the weight on the cutoff piece. Then they just kept building them that way.
I bought a Bosch that's built backwards from the usual, because like you say, it's a lot easier to use.

The most likely thing to deteriorate on an old camera is the performance/accuracy of the shutter. It would be interesting to see how good the accuracy and repeatability is after 50+ years. You can buy a tester for $49.
You might not notice that it has drifted over time, because film has good latitude, and the exposure on old equipment is fairly imprecise anyway.

I have one, and it's unstoppable when using the metal bowl and the dough hook. But the setup for beating/whipping uses that flimsy plastic bowl and the beaters run on plastic gears. I slightly damaged the teeth when I tried to cream butter that was a little too hard.
