I am not functioning at a high level this month, I remembered I had some baby potatoes rotting in the pantry so I picked out the good ones and roasted them up last night and I have a fistful of those for my lunch. Well, more than a fistful. I was worried plain roasted potatoes weren't going to be lunch enough, so I also have a packet of ranch seasoning powder. This is better than I've been doing.

Made the figgy pudding last night and just assembled the Mac&Cheese. All that's left is making the hard sauce and my cooking is done. Our car is busted so we can't visit the in-laws... on one hand I'm bummed my husband won't be seeing his parents (they all seem ok with it, there was no wailing) but on the other hand, Thanksgiving was stripped of all joy because we ran around to both families. Feeling guilty and grateful in equal measure that I get to spend the whole day with my own family.

Right now I'm patiently waiting for the figgy pudding to finish boiling so I can shower and go to bed. It's been a rough 2 days- lost power for a chunk of yesterday, pipes froze overnight, two relatives decided to skip Christmas because of the weather and hubby was in a minor car accident this afternoon. We gave up and decided to spend the night at my parents' house. But the presents are wrapped, the pudding is almost done and tomorrow will be a good day (it better be!)

It sucks, but when someone is in a desperate situation like that sometimes you can't give them an inch because they'll grab a mile. If you don't have a mile to give you have to balance your own health and safety and with the human impulse to reach out and help.

Passing out candy, just deciding if I want to be at my house or my parents'.

Parents house PROS: guaranteed trick or treaters, fire pit, fancy cheese snacks

CONS: socializing after a physical work day

My house PROS: pick and watch whatever scary movie I want, unlimited snacking with no judgement, encourage the future of trick or treating in the neighborhood, no running around after work

CONS: some years I get zero trick or treaters, uneven porch steps so I have to sit out there and catch the kids before they attempt to climb the danger steps, Mom might miss me
