The leather strap fell off, which made the headband far too big and uncomfortable. There was no way to glue it back on without breaking the headband further. It was still functioning so I didn’t wanna risk it.

I wanted to see if one of those headband covers would work so I tested it out with bubble wrap instead. It worked but obviously the bubbles would eventually pop. Adding some packing peanuts helped and was unusually comfortable. I have since ordered a $10-$15 headband cover from Amazon because… well, you see how janky it looks lol

The most common mod for almost any headphone is pad swapping. Some headphones, like the Hifiman HE6se V2 have such awful stock earpads that almost any other pad makes them sound better and more comfortable. Others, like most Sennheiser headphones, will change the sound for the worse with aftermarket earpads.

EDIT: Also EQ. Some people prefer to EQ to find their preferred sound. I personally dislike heavy EQing. Always makes my headphones sound boring and similar. And I always have to change something when I change something else, similar to physical mods but not as permanent.

But I do like to apply a small +3db bass shelf whenever I’m yearning for that nasty bass. Not always though lol

These are my 5 or so year old Aeons. And yes, the earpads are as fragile as everyone says. Other than that, they’re fine. Just a few scratches and such.

I do basically beat the shit out of them by using them frequently. The stock earpads last me about a year or so before they’re too mushy. This time though, I got Dekoni Elite sheepskin V2 pads, so we’ll see how those hold up (so far, so good)

It really depends on the headphones and how big the modding community is for it. Head-fi typically has a ton of comprehensive guides and information, like this thread for the T50RP. Could be a bit overwhelming though.

^(Disclaimer: some people go a bit overboard trying to min/max their headphones. Take everything with a grain of salt.)

I recently got the T50RP used and I agree, they’re amazing! Especially for the price and because of its modding potential. I slapped some Alpha pads on mine, lined the cups with a couple of cents worth of felt, taped the bass vents, which turned them into bass cannons.

I believe the reason why they don’t get recommended much is since they do require a decent amp. The Apple dongle is NOT enough, but the Qudelix 5k pairs well with it. Unbalanced is fine as well.

Another reason is the stock tuning is kinda meh. Great mids, but that’s pretty much it. And they can get fatiguing after a bit. I highly, highly recommend them as well… but only if you plan to mod them eventually and have a powerful amp.

I’m some people. But even then, I mainly use Spotify. It’s really not that bad and not even worth worrying about. Besides, nothing will make a difference if the song was recorded poorly to begin with. EDIT: You can get less fatiguing gear, but that’s pretty much it. It’s not like you can magically increase the quality with audio crystals or something.

My Grado 325is with the garden hose cable still work. I’ve had them for more than 10 years now.

The cable on my Fostex TH-X00 looks all janky, but it still works after 6 or so years.

That’s pretty much it for long lasting headphone cables. I do have some Monoprice RCA cables that are older than middle schoolers 😂

That’s one hell of an ad for Fiio and Hifiman…

#I’M JOKING!!!!

But in all reality, I’m touched by your story. Truly resonates with me. I most likely wouldn’t be here today had it not been for my love of music and headphones. Even though I already had a pair of Bose On Ear headphones in high school, the Sennheiser HD 598 I got for Christmas made me realize “hmm… maybe life is still worth living.”

A few years of therapy and dozens of headphones later definitely helped me. Now I just sit down and listen to music with planars and a tube amp. My problems and toxic people who cause said problems can go fuck themselves 🙃

If they really don’t sell them in Mexico for some reason, maybe you can have them shipped to someone in the US (or Estados Pudridos as I like to call it) then have them send it to you. Or maybe use one of those mail forwarding companies but that can get really expensive and probably not worth it.

Like someone already mentioned, the main difference seems to be the cable and adapter it comes with. I also got the refurbished ones around October and it came with the 3.5mm cable and 6.3mm adapter. I think the earpads might be different as well but I have no idea since I don’t have the “early” version to compare.

You can just EQ that if you really wanna try it. Most headphones start to roll off around 10khz anyway. Also, most “information” is below 10khz. Not saying it’s completely unimportant since cymbals and synths still reach those frequencies and you’ll lose that sense of air if it sharply rolls off after 10khz.

The only headphones I can think of at the moment (that I’ve owned) with high treble extension are the DCA Aeon and Beyerdynamic DT 990. Take out the tuning inserts on the Aeons and they’re treble monsters. Beyers can be found for relatively cheap ($129 for the DT 990 Pro on Amazon) if you wanna check them out.
