Both of these posts are untrue, the fauna thing is a myth but they wen't simply treated as if they didn't exist either. Of course in many parts of Australia they didn't have equal voting rights until more modern times (in half the states they've had a constitutional right to vote for over 170 years) but there was certainly always government policy at federal and state levels recognising them with ministers responsible for their welfare interests and Aboriginal issues.
