I read it at uni when I was 32 and was discovered by it. Nothing wrong with the book, it's well written and very worthy. It was presented to me as THE American Novel and I felt it was lacking in that respect. Your perspective is really good.

I always recommend starting with Guards Guards. It is a good start to the guards books and the Discworld. Mort is a good one too. I started with Pyramids but that book was a standalone like Small Gods (although SG God appears later in the books). The humour is key but the humanity is the best part of the books.

Try the audio book. It's a bit easier to get to grips with.

Not read the book but the title and the cover art are very similar to Stuart Turton's "Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle" which is a superb book. The similarly in titles has caused confusion at work

I never set page goals unless I am not enjoying the book but need to read it for work or study. I used to read a novel in about 3 days before I had a stroke. Now it is a week or more if I can get time. Find a book you enjoy and let it take you outside of your life and into the new world. Discworld did it for me, but so does Stephen King. Don't worry about 'worthy' books. I have a degree, work in a library, but will read a classic or something mainstream and love both.
