I disagree. In the span of a month I've seen the mindset here change from denialism and doomerism to something much more prepared for what's coming. This subreddit is still good. For now.

r/Futurology is bad. Extremely bad. But at least it's not r/technology.

I'd say by the end of 2023.

People don't understand the potential. I see a lot of people say it's just a more advanced chatbot or things like "that's what they said 10 years ago" etc. when they're told their jobs are going to be replaced.

Honestly, it's already a sort of premature AGI. It can do any task you throw at it if you teach it correctly. It will do it poorly, but it will do it.

I think these experts are getting tripped up with things like human creativity (which requires human emotions).
"every task" is too strict. Should limit it to "majority" of human tasks.

The paper: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2302.00923.pdf
The questions: "Our method is evaluated on the ScienceQA benchmark (Lu et al., 2022a). ScienceQA is the first large-scale multimodal science question dataset that annotates the answers with de- tailed lectures and explanations. It contains 21k multimodal multiple choice questions with rich domain diversity across 3 subjects, 26 topics, 127 categories, and 379 skills. The benchmark dataset is split into training, validation, and test splits with 12726, 4241, and 4241 examples, respectively."

What the actual fuck is that paper? The thing performed better than a human at several different question classes.
At fucking less than one billion parameters. 100x less than GPT 3.5.
Edit: For clarity, I am impressed not angry lol.

Where? I mainly use Youtube. Is it popular on tiktok or some shit? When I say popular I mean like 3 million + views. Not just 500k or something.

In 2018, if you told people that a tech like ChatGPT would be invented in the future, people would laugh at you. People would say it's science fiction. Don't you remember?

What's your prediction for when a ChatGPT that doesn't make mistakes in answering and has 10x more memory will occur? What's your timeline for AGI, singularity?

Aren't there only like 400 employees at OpenAI or something? That's like saying you have a friend who won the lottery. That's pretty amazing. What's their experience like? Anything they can share? Is it all secretive?
