Brattleboro is a good area. I like Bennington, and White River Junction isn't too bad.

There's a decent sized gift shop that seems to do pretty good business, but I haven't been inside.

Hogback Mountain overlook on Route 9 on the way to Brattleboro is a pretty epic experience.
