It is hard to say, but it may have the capacity to happen very quickly, yes. If it is able to improve its own mechanism of intelligence, thus making it capable of improving it further in a positive feedback loop, then yeah it could potentially happen very quickly.

I have pretty much given up on trying to talk to people about it. They really dont want to believe it because they want to believe that their lives will unfold just like they always imagined, that their kids and grandkids will have lives just like theirs, etc.

For real tho, yeah it seems almost infinitely likely, statistically speaking, that our reality is some sort of simulation.

I dont think time is traversable in this manner, or maybe even knowable. All events past and future seem to just sort of exist at once, not flow in any sort of direction. A greater intelligence would probably understand this much differently than a bunch of monkey brains like us, but that doesnt mean they could travel through it if it just isnt that sort of thing.
