The internet killed the local scenes. There’s still hotbeds of certain styles but a lot of them are holdovers. Jam bands are still big throughout upstate NY, for example.

Context of the times. It came out when openly admitting to being a creep and a weirdo and being sad and outcasted in a rock song was still uncommon. This wasn’t very many years after the peak of hair metal where the most popular rock was about getting blowjobs and being a badass cool guy who parties all the time. Nowadays the biggest pop singer in the world can make her lead single off a new album about being a sad outcast and no one thinks twice but in the early 90s, it was revelatory.

That said, Radiohead made far more interesting music later on, and became a beloved and well respected band, so it boosted “Creep”’s profile.

Up until about 2006-2007, probably. After that the “poptimism” movement got bigger and you saw more openness towards the mainstream from alt folks until the lines were blurred. Nowadays I don’t even know what distinguishes one from the other anymore.

I love this book, I relate very strongly to a lot of it. But, Augusten Burroughs has written multiple memoirs, including a few that are short story collections. He’s gotta be making some of it up. How much of Running with Scissors is made up as opposed to what isn’t is hard to say. Some of the real life Finches and Burroughs’ family have denied it, there were lawsuits, etc. But of course, they would, as it makes all of them look bad to varying degrees. I figure, whether every word if it is documented fact or some of it is artistic license, the emotions and the writing of it rings true.

I could see a sequel where Django rounds up a team of renegade ex-slaves and goes on missions to free slaves from their plantations. As much as I’m sure he desires a quiet life in the north with his wife, Django’s major skill seems to be shooting, killing, and general badassery.

I’m not an avid audiobook fan but I’ve liked Campbell Scott in them. He’s done a lot of them and he’s generally good at threading that needle where, it’s always him doing his own voice, but his inflections change depending on the character. In The Shining he didn’t outright try to sound like Danny but he sounded like how an adult would do an impression of a kid.

I think he had a social disorder of some type. Hints of antisocial tendencies at least. I wonder if he had abuse or neglect in his past; it could have influenced his quickness to anger and confrontation. It’s been ages since I read the book but the scene in the film adaptation where the psychiatrists are discussing whether he truly belongs there or not seemed to indicate this was the paradox of his character.
