Russia's logistics are so bad that the mothers of soldiers have to provide and bring them their kit.
But what is really happening here is propaganda meant for domestic consumption. These women herald a mass mobilization order for women.
HueyCrashTestPilot t1_iy56onk wrote
There is no better propaganda than the mangled corpses of wives and mothers.

Also, a human shield meant to both make Ukraine look bad if they're killed and to motivate conscripts to fight rather than run.

I doubt it, the mothers and wives of the men sent to die unwillingly are the most likely to speak up against the government, this gets them out of the country so if they do complain there aren't other Russians around to hear it, and lets Putin double down on "We're defending Russians who are living in the Ukraine!" rhetoric.

Meh I think putin just doesn't want to have to pay them for their dead sons if they are dead too

In all fairness… if you remember the early days of the Iraq War moms and girlfriends where sending soldiers body armor because the Bush Admin didn’t plan on the war lasting more than a few months.

In all fairness what is the point of your comment lol

That doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Yes, it does.
And your comment is a perfect example of it.

So… I’m gonna fix you here hero so you don’t embarrass yourself in the future. It’s not because I’m not using the point to deflect from the failure of Russian logistics. We know it’s been bad since the start, what I did is called “yes and…” but you of course already knew that. It’s historical context for major powers struggling with basic logistics when an east victory turns into an extended quagmire.
So… like I said that word doesn’t mean what you think it means and rather than being unable to process new information this is where you say TIL and move on with your day.

>I don't don't know what 'whataboutism' means, but I am really upset that you said that I did it.
Oh, I know. We all know.
And that's ok! I conveniently left a link in my first comment here that you can click on to learn about whataboutisms.
So, go ahead hErO and point your Speak 'N' Spell on over there and give learning a shot.
Orlando1701 t1_iy59ss0 wrote
Dude… don’t get pissed. Just admit you didn’t know something and move on. JFC.

I will admit that I didn't realize that you would fight so hard to avoid trying to learn something. It's impressive. Not in a good way mind you, but impressive nonetheless.
You remind me of those old people on Facebook that will smugly post a meme that is talking shit about personality traits that they don't realize perfectly describe them.
Orlando1701 t1_iy56fh6 wrote
Clam down there hero. It’s just historical context that Russia isn’t the First Nation to struggle with basic logistics when a quick victory turned into a quagmire. “Yes, and…” as it’s called.

Stop calling him " hero ". It's annoying and adds nothing to the argument.

Lol. You got it hero. Be less sensitive my man. It’s the internet, don’t get your jimmies russled by strangers.

In all fairness, that doesn't really matter now does it?
the US soldier is a volunteer, not some guy kidnapped and sent to die with only a week of training.
Dry_Magician6870 t1_iy74eqx wrote
I think that you don't understand how few people who end up in the military have a choice or volunteer because they want to serve. They volunteer because they have few to no other options to support themselves.
Military recruiters know this and swarm those high schools/areas. I went to a high school in rural CA with less than 25% of most graduating class doing any post secondary schooling due mostly to economics. We had at least one branch of the military on our campus every day of the week. My husband, who grew up in a wealthy bay area suburb never saw a military recruiter on campus. Period.
