Reply to comment by PairOpen in Chinese cities brace for wave of Foxconn workers from COVID-hit Zhengzhou by KimCureAll
I have often wondered how that business deal is going. I can't imagine smoothly, even before covid. Are all the employees Chinese in that location? Does Taiwan actually make any money with that factory or do Chinese officials rake in all the profits?

It works the same way American factories overseas does: they abide to local laws, but other than that they set their own rules and extract their profits for the owners.
Foxconn has no choice but to enforce a zero-Covid policy, but they had plenty of choices to not treat their workers in a shitty way, and they had plenty of choice to not house every employee on campus and restrict their movements.
Don’t know why people think everything works differently when it comes to China.

That's kind of wild when you think about it.. I know these places are so huge with over 100,000 workers that they basically are company towns. But still, to be told that you may never leave the realm of Wal-Mart or something is just something else.

When a new plant opens virtually all the laborers will be Chinese. Some of the low-level management may be Taiwanese. Higher level management is Taiwanese.
The Taiwanese low-level management and laborers are there to teach the new laborers and managers how to do it. And over time they leave and are replaced with Chinese.
So in a "mature" factory all the laborers and low-level management will be Chinese. And the upper management will be Taiwanese.
Yes, profits flow to Taiwan. Obviously a lot of the money generated stays in China as it goes into taxes, workers pockets or to suppliers who tend to be local.
