I would like to purchase my dad a fly fishing excursion for his birthday, and was curious if anybody had recs on guides/companies, as well as when time of year and where they'd recommend? I did something similar in Colorado with my father-in-law and figure this would be a great way to take in some of Vermont's beauty...and maybe catch a fish or two! Hoping that any session would include renting equipment.

Mid May through June is the best season for dry fly fishing in my opinion.

I haven't hired guides through the fly rod shop (in Stowe), but I have hired their guides for fly casting lessons before a big fishing trip, and they seem really cool. I'd definitely fish with them.

Harrison anglers are the best guides I have heard of in vt/ma. They guide the Deerfield, swift, and hoosic in southern vt/western ma. Maybe some other rivers too. Worth checking them out.

Harrison is great, if you're in very southwest VT they're hard to beat.

Brew Moscarello is the best guide I have ever had. I've hired him 3 times over the past several years. He's an amazing teacher, knows his stuff better than anyone I've ever met and is just a pleasant, laid back dude. May-June would be a good time to target the Battenkill and nearby tributaries.

Cant go wrong with either VTFLYCO or Stream & Brook fly fishing. They are both amazing guide services that'll put you on fish. Time of year depends on fish you want to target. Best, safest trout fishing is late spring and during late fall. The rivers can get too hot for safe trout fishing during the warmer months
