I’d say it’s more appropriate than eating beans before getting on the bus and trapping people with you in an enclosed space.

It depends on the rules of the public transport agency. If eating is allowed, go for it. Just be careful, clean up after yourself, and bring a few napkins.

I would be fascinated to learn what the prompt is for this project.

The real question is where you can find public transport in Vermont.

FourteenthCylon t1_j3olcbm wrote

Right where I live, of course. There's a bus that comes here on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Yes, that really is the schedule.

Would it matter if the beans were not maple or baked?

You eat raw unflavored beans on public transportation, too??!! I never thought I'd find anyone else who shared my kink.

MarkVII88 t1_j3lypcg wrote

There aren't many of us but...

Anyway, I thought OP's question just seemed random AF. Why maple baked beans? Why not spaghetti and meatballs, or cereal with milk, or macaroni and cheese? What's the significance of the maple baked beans.

brainzilla420 t1_j3mbgxf wrote

I'm not here to kink shame OP's fetish for maple baked beans on a bus. I think it's repulsive, i mean, who eats cooked beans in any scenario, but I'm not gonna yuk their yum.

Are they hot or cold?

This is serious and important to my answer.

I think you should eat some beans on the bus and find out. This feels like low hanging fruit (ha ha) for try it in the real world and see if it's true or not.

I think they are fine as long as eating on the train / bus isn't against the rules. As someone who used to commute via train I can you hungry people a few seats away will secretly hate you out of hangry jealousy. FYI! 🙂

No. It's really not appropriate to eat at all in transit. Not safe either

I would eat them on a train, I would eat them in the rain.....

Of course. As long as you're not hurting anyone, you do you.

Appropriate? Sure, why not :)

Advised? Oh no, that'd be very messy. Depending on the length of transport, the gas release will be powerful as well.

Not enough people are asking the right questions here.

What kind of school project could ever possibly require you to eat maple baked beans on public transportation? Why specifically maple baked? Why beans at all?

These are the questions we need answers to. Please elaborate in excruciating detail OP.

MarkVII88 t1_j3msuu3 wrote

I did specifically ask why maple baked beans, or beans at all.

winooskiwinter t1_j3pfgdh wrote

only if you're eating them out of the can, hobo-style.

PuddleCrank t1_j3m4cf2 wrote

Yes of course it's okay to satisfy your hunger with delicious maple baked beans while in transit as long as you are following their rules pertaining to food. (I believe they'll have to be under 5 oz for a plane and I'm concerned about getting a can opener in your carry on.)

If someone tries telling me what I could or couldn't eat, or for that matter when or where I'd probably tell them to walk away before I react, because people trying to control my behavior in a free country run the risk of assault possibly even being thrown from said public transport. No I don't think that's too harsh, bothering someone else with your problems especially in public and on a transport is a recipe to catch a whooping. I've been on a bus with people enjoying durian, I didn't bother them about it, I've been on a train/ Boston T when someone shit themselves, also didn't bother them. If you feel the need to observe someone doing something not at all pertaining to you and then tell them what they can and can't do, it's your problem not their problem.

Maleficent_Rope_7844 t1_j3qmjir wrote

Not really what OP asked.

Maleficent_Rope_7844 t1_j3qpffb wrote

Let me ask you- while you didn't bother the person that shit themselves on the train, would you find it "appropriate" to shit oneself on a train or other public transport?

1

smokeythemechanic t1_j3qrc6e wrote

It's public transport, some people are incontinent, some are bums, some are drunks and some are you and I. Why is it appropriate to get into someone else's business because it makes you uncomfortable? When driving a car on a two lane interstate highway, you see someone coming up fast in the left lane, do you pull in front of them to slow them down, or do you let them do their thing? Also for reference the people eating durian fruit was 100% worse than the guy that shit his britches.

Maleficent_Rope_7844 t1_j3qsbqq wrote

Fair enough, bad example.

You're still missing it. Whether something is "appropriate" or not in a given setting is a matter of opinion. It doesn't automatically mean if someone thinks someone else's behaviour is inappropriate that they will do something about it.

To use your analogy- I don't think it's "appropriate" for people to do 90 on the interstate around here like many people often do. But like you say- do I pull out in front of someone I see flying up the left lane? No, of course not.

Or, back to the eating thing, I personally wouldn't eat anything like durian or another strong smelling thing in public if it's likely to bother other people. I'm considerate, so I don't think it's "appropriate". But again, of course I wouldn't bother somebody enjoying some smelly snack.

1

smokeythemechanic t1_j3qsq8t wrote

Appropriate or not is an opinion. Till someone is doing physical harm or threatening physical harm, stay tf out of it, otherwise be prepared for people to physically harm you for getting in their business

1

Maleficent_Rope_7844 t1_j3qsy2s wrote

No shit "appropriate or not is an opinion".

OP literally asked "is it appropriate to..."

OP did not ask how you personally would respond to somebody bothering you in a public setting in 'merica.
