Hell yeah, I’m right in the deep red. Good luck to everyone who needs to be somewhere tomorrow but I already took the day off and I’m ready to get dumped on.

I had a 1984 Honda Civic hatchback. It was a 4 speed. LOVED it in the snow. I never put the first snow tire on that thing, couldn't afford them back then--just had my all seasons on there. I was working at a resort and racquet club up near Sugarbush and was up and down German Flats and the Access road every day in the winter. The only time I ever had an issue was driving through Granville Gulf on route 100 and did a full spinout landing in the right direction on the side of the road. The folks behind me stopped and helped me get off the snowbank...lol. I'm just glad I wasn't an idiot trying to haul ass like so many do.

From what I’ve heard the roads are decent, I’ve got some all seasons on, it’s a 2012 front wheel drive, slow and steady wins the race like they say

BeckyKleitz t1_j0rk1le wrote

Oh yeah, for sure. My little Honda was a four speed and it did really well in the snow. In the summer, I took it up and down forest logging roads and all kinds of terrain...lol...she handled it like a trooper. I think she thought she was a 4 wheel drive. LOL.

I miss that car, but I do like my automatic transmission now that I'm old and arthritic. LOLOL

What's everybody getting all worked up over? A foot at most? Shits basically a dusting. Let's be Vermonters about this shit.

I think people are more excited than worried. A good base means any subsequent snow counts. It would be nice if this really kicked off winter

Excited for skiing or for like winter wonderland to stick around for the season ya mean? (Fresh noob here unaccustomed to this snowspeak)

My concern is the first time idiots. No, I’m not talking about out of staters or fresh transplants… I’m talking about the 90% of people (even with green plates) who lose all experience with winter driving for the first snow storm. The same people who in February will be cruising along at highway speeds but first storm are sliding all over the place as they forget how snow affects steering and breaking.

They don’t take the time to get reacquainted with their steering and nearly bite it at every turn. They don’t think back on decades of braking in snow and try to stop like it is midsummer. And they don’t look at the sheet of white and think “well maybe other cars need room too”.

BeckyKleitz t1_j0gs5mt wrote

Right? There would already be six feet of snow on the ground by the middle of December back in the 70's, ffs.

I remember snowbanks tall as buildings all the way from Malletts Bay to North Avenue back in the day!! LOL.

Season meat, cook it right

Add some toppings like veggies or cheese

As outside the snow swirls on the breeze

One of the NWS forecaster discussions mentioned the snow will stick around for Christmas as Temps are going to be on the cold side.

I grabbed the pair of metal/rubber chainy things my landlord had in the garage but will need to learn how to put them on! #1stVermontBlizzardForMe

Yes, the bindings. There must be some illustrations on the interwebs of how yours work.

2

twdvermont t1_j0g0sts wrote

"metal/rubber chainy things" sounds more like microspikes than snowshoes.

7

Hanginon t1_j0hibi3 wrote

Yes, either them, or new, modern snowshoes.

1

twdvermont t1_j0hj8c5 wrote

Maybe? I wouldn’t describe those as “chainy”. Micro spikes have chains holding the spikes together.

This isn't a blizzard though. Just your typical nor'easter. If what you have are things that go over your boots for traction, they won't be of much help. Those are for ice...

Just had to make a side trip from Waitsfield all the way to East Barre because the food bank had a delivery window that did not jive with the rest of my route. Now onward to Stowe

RoyalIndependence500 t1_j0gpm5c wrote

100 ok? Did you take the interstate at all?

1

Old-Ambassador-3377 t1_j0gqtb4 wrote

100 and the interstate were both pretty bad. State trucks are out doing what they can but it's accumulating too fast for them to really keep up. In Waterbury center at the moment, 100 isn't horrible here but out Moretown way it was awful.

1

RoyalIndependence500 t1_j0gra13 wrote

I probably won’t get that way until 3 or so. I’ll be in my Tacoma as I work for a small mom and pop bakery delivering bread. Hopefully the plows will have a handle on things by then. May take 2 to Middlesex.
