Payas is a decent place to work with but be aware, all their cars are salvaged titles. At least 5 years ago they were, that may or may not have changed. They make their business buying crashed cars, fixing and reselling. They do good work and stand by it but you won't find a clean title on the lot. If that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. If that doesn't bother you, have at it!

During my car search I discovered that many of their vehicles are salvage titles — vehicles that have been damaged and were considered a total loss by an insurance company that paid out on damaged vehicle claims, then repaired. They will readily disclose this, it’s a common practice. Food for thought.

Mostly flood damaged cars with salvage titles which makes future resale much lower. My mom has a 2016 Accord from them that's been good the 20k miles she's had it.

We looked there but when we talked to our insurance company they said they refuse to cover any cars from there. It was enough of a red flag for us to walk away.

What did the refuse? Collision or liability. I bought my daughter a car with a salvage title and liability coverage was not an issue. Maybe if you want full coverage they might balk as a salvage is never worth as much as a never wrecked.

Same for us. Our insurance agent told us they will not cover salvage titles, not for collision or liability.

I got a Civic from them years ago and it treated me well. Like others have said, since it will likely have a salvage title, plan to drive it into the ground because it will have little to no resale value.

Their Essex shop is literally next door to the insurance auction IAA. If you want to buy a dinged up car, just go to the auction yourself.

We bought a car from their a few years ago. They were upfront that it was a salvage title which apparently some states don't allow to be resolved. Our car was in a flood, but the inside of the car was spotless, and we only had a minor radio issue, which they happily fixed for us that day at the other location by Mazzas. The car was about $4,500 less than a similar used but not salvaged car, so we ended up with a better model than we were originally looking for.

So far the car still runs like a champ, knock wood.

They use to bring their vehicles to our shop for recall/warranty work. That relationship only lasted a few years as they refused to actually give us any money, just took whatever free repairs were on the table from the OEM.

Our shop foreman thought himself a sort of funny man. On one particular terrible repair order, where they declined thousands of dollars in safety related repairs on a vehicle that was clearly already on their lot, he wrote "Another quality vehicle from Paya's". Somehow that paperwork was left on the passenger seat which resulted in an angry call to our management. "Yea, we are going to go reprimand our shop foreman for calling out your unsafe bullshit." Pretty sure it went something like that and they stopped coming shortly after.

My young nieces and nephews have bought 4 or 5 between them and have been pleased. The cars run, have only the normal stuff that goes wrong, and pass inspection. Good quality for the money, we're not talking luxury here.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

If you can find a partially submerged from them, you’ll likely be happy. That’s been my experience with them.
