2022 was a fantastic year for television and the trend continues with 2023's most anticipated TV shows. Last year was a banger for TV, with hits like The White Lotus, House of the Dragon, Better Call Saul, and Abbott Elementary. And it looks like 2023 is going to be just as good, if not better! From video game adaptations to all-star cast miniseries and beloved franchise entries, viewers are in for a treat.

  1. The Last Of Us (HBO) — January 15, 2023, The beloved video game comes to life in HBO's The Last Of Us. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay star in this post-apocalyptic story about a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl. HBO has a history of delivering premium content and The Last Of Us is set to continue that tradition. Will it live up to the fans' expectations? Only time will tell. What's your thought on the aired episodes?
  2. Poker Face (Peacock) — January 26, 2023, Peacock is ready to hit it big with Rian Johnson's mystery comedy, Poker Face. Starring Natasha Lyonne and an all-star cast, this character-driven show will be the next big mystery everyone will be talking about. What's your thought on the aired episode?
  3. The White House Plumbers (HBO) — March 2023, HBO's satire game is strong and The White House Plumbers is set to continue that trend. The five-part miniseries stars Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux as Watergate masterminds who end up sabotaging the presidency they were trying to protect. Expect this show to be a top Emmy contender in 2023.
  4. Secret Invasion (Disney+) — early 2023, Marvel fans, get ready for Secret Invasion. Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury as he investigates the Skrulls' infiltration on Earth. With an all-star cast, this classic Marvel Comics storyline is set to be a Phase 5 high-profile event with potential ramifications for the franchise's future.
  5. The Three-Body Problem (Netflix) — 2023, The Three-Body Problem is a must-watch for science fiction fans. This show will explore the story of humanity's first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization.
  6. Ahsoka (Disney+) — 2023, Ahsoka Tano is one of the most popular and powerful heroes in the Star Wars universe, and she's finally getting her own show on Disney+. Rosario Dawson, who first appeared in The Mandalorian, will play the lead role and familiar characters like Ezra Bridger and Anakin Skywalker will also make an appearance. Fans are excited for the show, especially since Dave Filoni, the mastermind behind Star Wars, will write and direct multiple episodes.
  7. Velma (HBO Max) — 2023, Mindy Kaling is venturing into animation with Velma on HBO Max, based on the character from the Scooby Doo franchise. The series will center on Velma as she tries to solve a murder mystery. The casting of Velma as a teenage girl of East Asian descent sparked controversy, but the show has a talented ensemble cast including Constance Wu and Glenn Howerton, and promises to bring Mystery Inc. into the 21st century.
  8. Love and Death (HBO Max) — 2023, Elizabeth Olsen is taking a break from Marvel for the dark comedy Love and Death on HBO Max. The show is inspired by a real-life murder scandal in 1980 and follows Candy Montgomery, who is accused of killing her friend. Love and Death features a talented cast including Judy Greer and Jessie Plemons, and is written by television veteran David E. Kelley.
  9. X-Men '97 (Disney+) — 2023, Nostalgia is in, and Disney+ is reviving X-Men: The Animated Series. Plot details are scarce, but the show is expected to follow the same premise as the original, focusing on the lives and adventures of the X-Men mutants. The X-Men have been known for tackling societal and racial issues, and with today's current climate, X-Men '97 will likely continue that tradition.
  10. Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Disney+) — In late 2023, Kathryn Hahn, who nearly stole the show in WandaVision, is getting her own spinoff with Coven of Chaos. The show's details are still under wraps, but the casting of Heartstopper star Joe Locke has sparked rumors that Wiccan and Speed's teenage versions will make their debut. Aubrey Plaza, fresh off the success of The White Lotus' second season, will also play a villainous role. With a promising cast and the potential for Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda to make an appearance, Coven of Chaos is one of the most anticipated shows of 2023.

Are you excited about these upcoming shows? Let's start the discussion and make predictions on which shows will be the biggest hits in 2023!

I think the anticipation has already evolved into decimation for Velma.

I gave it 5 minutes, it truly is as bad as everyone is making it out to be. It is trying to way to hard to be edgy and call out Hollywood and society in general.

Funnily enough it was a hit in ratings for HBO max.

Wonder if all the bad publicity actually made people go watch it to see if it's actually as bad as everyone says it is.

The Last of Us so far is shattering expectations and could very likely end up on my best of TV list of 2023 if the remaining episodes are as good as the first 3. HBO is on track to having the best television output again with the fourth seasons of both Succession and Barry out this year. The White House Plumbers and Love and Death have potential with great casts. Hopefully True Detective has their best season since the first. Reservation Dogs S3 hasn't got a release date, but if it comes out this year it'd definitely be one of my most anticipated shows. Season 2 was my second favorite season of television in 2022 behind Better Call Saul Season 6. It was a perfect blend of humor and heartfelt drama.

Like a year ago, I definitely would have said Ahsoka, but I don't have much hope for Star Wars shows after Boba and Obi. Out of these, probably The Last of Us. Probably gonna start watching it when all or most episodes are out.

I'm really looking forward to The Three Body Problem. Just finished the books last week and am watching the Chinese version on YouTube

But I'm also really wary about how it will turn out lol

The Chinese version is going into the books hard. 30 episode series. And it's kind of showing the flaw with that as some parts really drag. But there's a ton to cover and they're really doing it justice, for better or worse.

The Netflix version already seems very different as they're having an international cast (kind of seems like an obvious choice if you're adapting a Chinese book with almost all Chinese characters into something you're hoping will be an international hit) but the casting is concerning. Benedict Wong is a great addition but if he's playing Wang Miao and not Da Shi it'll be a serious miscast. But other sources say he is playing Da Shi and the guy who played Sam on GoT will be Wang Miao (which I also think is bad casting).

Also, I don't see how they'll shove this book into a bingable series for mass audiences. So much of it is just narration explaining scientific theories and concepts. Most of the characters can be very wooden, especially the main ones, as I guess they're more meant to represent concepts than actual people.

Should be a trip. Especially if they start doing books 2 and 3. Book 1 is kind of a detective mystery thriller. The other two are wild with different dimensions and huge passages of time.

Mostly the same as the other replies but I would include season 2 of Yellowjackets.
