i've seen the sopranos on imdb popular tv shows taking the #35 place while i've never seen anyone watching it or talking about it.. so does anyone knows whats imdb popular tv shows list based on?? or is it just randomly chosen??
It’s overwhelmingly regarded as the greatest show ever made and it’s constantly watched /rewatched/and talked about. Not sure where you live or if you just got access to the internet but I almost feel like this is a troll post

Go look at the sopranos sub. Show went off the air 16 years ago and fans are still very active in the discussions so yes I’d say it’s still popular.

The second half of season 1 it goes into another level. I’m on season 6 now…. Never seen anything like it before.

It might not be your thing. It’s okay to not like it, but you should also have the capacity to understand that just because you don’t like it, it can still be widely regarded as amazing television.
Breaking Bad wouldn't exist without The Sopranos by the way. You just watched them in the wrong order. Have you watched The Wire?

It's based off recent activity. This is why Velma is 20, even though a year from now I doubt many people will even remember it existed. The fact a series that ended 16~ years ago is still that popular is beyond impressive.

Beyond that, all these things change over time. It would be weirder if the series was still growing/had an extremely active fanbase after the only content added to it in the past decade was the poorly received movie.
There was a Sopranos Super Bowl commercial just last year. The whole car commercial banks off of people knowing the Sopranos. Link

i feel like it got pretty popular again around 2020-2021. on young people meme twitter the show and more specifically Tony are still pretty popular, being used for gif and meme reactions

well, there exist many people, even foreign, outside of the ones we talk with. Some of them probably watch it and use IMDB, wild guess I know

IMDb probably base popularity on page views or some hidden formula based on page views and frequency/ range of new ratings.
