I’m waiting for my first appointment with a new PCP- scheduled 3 months ago, and still a month away. I’ve started having stomach pains that have been worsening, and the doctor’s office will not try to work me in as a cancellation. Does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere I can be seen quickly without being established? Any actually good urgent cares that are connected to a larger hospital or network of doctors?

Maybe a different, new, PCP? They don’t sound too accommodating.

It's very hard to even find a doctor who's taking new patients, and then there is usually a 3-5 month wait.

I like patient first. They offer PCP services as well, which means a lot of times your visit is billed as PCP vs emergent care.

For what it's worth, HCA bought BetterMed but I don't know if that gets you anything. Both HCA and Bon Secours also have emergency centers in the area.

I’ve had great luck with BetterMed over the years. BetterMed is staffed by mostly emergency room personnel from around the area and they are great at diagnosing and addressing issues. Specifically, about 4 years ago I had terrible abdominal pain and saw Dr Juan at the Willow Lawn location. He did X-rays and bloodwork at BetterMed and ordered a CT scan that same evening at St Mary’s to confirm that I had diverticulosis and he got the Willow Lawn CVS pharmacy to stay open 10 mins after closing time so that I could get started on antibiotics ASAP. Last summer, another Dr correctly diagnosed my daughter’s yeast allergy (pediatrician and dermatologist thought her hives was just a rash) by asking a lot of great questions about her diet and reactions to food. An allergist confirmed her yeast allergy, which she now carries an epi pen for! Probably TMI but wanted to share my experience in case it’s helpful!!

Try Dr Manetas he is a fantastic internist and his group managed to get my gf in quickly when her gastroperisis acted up with a really bad flare. They also accept medicare/medicaid. 804.559.6194. Ask for him specifically. He takes care of my entire family.

@OP if you can afford to pay $70ish per month for now, try Dandelion Health. It’s a direct primary care practice, but will be able to see you same day or next day until you get in with a place that accepts your insurance. ALSO, I suggest you try pursuing a new PCP office. 4 months wait time in not normal. And thety sound too rigid. This is coming from someone who works in healthcare

Also calling your insurance company and explaining that you have x issue for y time and z family/personal history may motivate them to help either skip a referral/get a new pcp or find a specialist. Insurance would rather catch a problem early in most cases then pay for more expensive treatment.

This might be a good reason to go to the VCU emergency department
