Chengdu Taste is the recommendation du jour for this.

Will second Chengdu Taste; hands down the best place I've had in Providence

Was not impressed by Chengdu Taste when I was there last, though it may be the best Chinese in PVD. I hate to say it, but China Town in Boston is where you really want to go

Was recommended Chengdu Taste but the one time I went the staff tried to accuse me of hitting one of their cars…. A giant dent in theirs without a scratch on mine. Yeah, won’t be back.

Some of the best Chinese I’ve ever had, but you have to order the right things.

Yeah, every other answer is wrong. Ma Po Tofu w/ Minced Pork from Cheng du is always the answer.

Do they have good chicken wings and pork fried rice

This post is about authentic Chinese food not American food.

I have only gotten takeout once but the couple sichuan dishes I got were great.

Chengdu taste is my top recommendation. Jahunger on wickenden also has some good sichuan style dishes.

Oh yeah - I forgot about Jahunger. Amazing Uyghur cuisine 🤤

Seconded Jahunger, good fresh food. Their ding ding noodles is really good.

Chengdu taste is your best bet, but I lived in China for ten years and ate many a meal and must say that Chengdu taste was a let down. Too salty or too sweet. Balance was lacking in almost every dish I ordered. Bummer!

Damn… ever tried Chong Qing House in east providence? I wonder how it compares. The sichuan dishes I’ve had there in the past were really good.

Dtknightt t1_ixkb49q wrote

I haven’t but I’ll put it on my list. :)

its_howi t1_ixkp62e wrote

I would recommend Chong Qing house, I’m Asian who grew up with native Chinese parents and the food there is very authentic. Not your typical Chinese takeout

PipeLayer2016 t1_ixkavo8 wrote

Same experience for me. I'm originally from the west coast where we had amazing Chinese food places. Places full of Chinese people, and I couldn't read the menu. I will never forget that mashed eggplant. Chengdu is no where close

Jahunger is actually Uyghur, though modern day Uyghur cuisines have seen heavy influence from other Chinese styles, especially sichuan, which were brought there by the XPCC in the 40s and 50s.

Creativeusername962 t1_ixkl8n3 wrote

That’s interesting! It’s gotta be the only Uyghur restaurant I’ve heard of.

Chong Qing in East Providence. Went today and it’s super good Sichuan! No dim sum though :(

I second Chồng Quing for great Sichuan

I second this! Great authentic Chinese food

King's Garden in Cranston, Silver Crystal in West Warwick, Golden Chopsticks in Westerly and Golden Palace in Uncasville CT all have some Dim Sum offerings.

Chong Qing in East Providence is better than Chengdu . Cleaner flavors, less greasy, deliciously spicy (I'm Chinese American and my dad's side of the family is from that area in China).

I need to check this place out. How are the prices & portions?

1

its_howi t1_ixogdmb wrote

Definitely not cheap like your typical Chinese takeout but I think it’s worth it. Portions are good, my gf and I typically get 2 dishes and that paired with rice it’s enough for dinner and we always end up having leftovers too

GotenRocko t1_ixkfwqs wrote

Yama Fuji on north main St, ask for the authentic Chinese menu.

Golden House always. Idk if it's authentic but it's so good

Golden Chopstix in Westerly. Really. I know it's not near Providence, but I had to recommend it.
