Hi folks, does anyone have any good leads on an apartment (preferably first floor - bad knees), that allows a cat? I've had it with my shit landlord, not because I'd like to get a pet (I don't have one at the moment, but would love the option), but because he is probably the worst landlord I've ever had to deal with. At this point, his bullshit is affecting my livelihood and I after 3 years I'm ready to get the fuck outta this building.

Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

It's fine if you don't mind the burbs. I live just over the MA border and it's a pretty part of the state, easy to get to stuff.

I spent over two years looking for an apartment that accepted pets and found NOTHING in that price range. The moment you mention a pet they all tack on a $300 pet deposit or $100/mo extra, or sometimes both.

What about service animals/emotional support? Still an added fee? Because I know landlords are obligated to allow those types of pets regardless, but can they legally still charge for it?

Out of genuine curiosity , if you found a 1st floor apartment for $1100 +/- in Providence but they did not allow pets would you take it?

Yeah of course. A pet would be nice to have, but I'm not committed to the idea quite yet. A roof over my head with a landlord that doesn't suck ass all the time is more of a priority.

Wow you are one of the only people I ever seen on Reddit that see's having a roof over their head more of a priority than a pet, I've seen people on Youtube videos that will not give up their pets for stable housing with no pet policies. Boggles my mind.

Well I mean I don't have a pet right now, so if it came to wanting a pet, or finding an affordable place to live, I'd obviously have to go with having a place to live. I might be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

I miss having a dog (I had to put my 15 year old pup to sleep a few years back due to untreatable cancer she'd developed), and I've reached the point of genuinely wanting another pet, either a cat or a hedgehog or something like that.

But no, my ability to have one of those things definitely wouldnj't determine whether or not I could find a place to live. Priorities. lol I hate being an adult.

Walter Bronhard units are usually pet friendly. My old Hope St basement apartment (1 bed) was $1000/mo. If you don't want to live in a basement, though, you probably need to look further away from the city center.

Op if you don't another worst landlord you ever had to deal with, might not want to go with Bronhard.

They are definitely not the greatest landlord, but, coming from Boston, they absolutely are not the worst either -- at least from a building maintenance perspective. They also don't charge pet rent or ask for a pet deposit, which is a rarity. I rented at $1k/mo two years ago, and now I'm currently renting a different 1 bedroom for $1.1k/mo near College Hill.

Tough to find an apartment even in Fall River or New Bedford (MA, but nearby) for that tbh. Rents are going up and up.

Paragon Mill in Olneyville is now accepting applications. From what I understand, they are income limited, which indicates lower rents for those who quality.

I'm renting a studio for 975 that allows pets, but everything about it is less than ideal. Couldn't find any one bedrooms that were under 1200. Good luck.

Check out Roomies.com.. there you can find roommates or rooms in the area. That’s what I used to find roommates for my apartment recently.
