I'm from fishtown, my mother is still down there. if you ask the old heads it's getting worse but I don't think the crime is any worse than its ever been. The only "new" big issue is the catalytic converter theft. I currently live in wissanoming but I've only been here 3 years. So not much has changed in that time.

My anecdotal view of fishtown was that in the 90s it was okay. There was mostly fights and people getting jumped by groups of kids, not like we see today. The biggest story was the Sweeney kid getting killed by someone he trusted and they found his body by graffiti pier. There wasn't the violence I was familiar with in Kensington, but it had its period of a downward spiral. Then the developing took over. I like to think it started with the old hospital on berks and Frankford; anyone remember when the roof caught on fire? Anyway, since then it's slowly crept up to what it is today, it really boomed commercially

Freddie Adams was killed in a gang fight in the 90s. Don't tell the neighborhood that it was gang related though even though that's what all the evidence says. Wayne Ellis was murdered walking home in 2002. That is still unsolved but believed to be a robbery. The poor Sweeney kid. In the 90s a black family moved in on Marlborough and they had to have a cop outside untill they were able to move because people broke in and beat them up and they were constantly harassed. My grand father lived on Oxford and when he passed on my mom was selling it, a black couple viewed it and after that the house was graffitied with swastikas. I love the neighborhood because I grew up there but it has its issues. It always has but people dont want to face it. It's easier to blame the new people or the DA even though the cops never show up when called and if they do they are belligerent. I have never had a good experience with the 26th.

The old heads constantly whine about Fishtown on Facebook. I’m in Port Richmond and alot of PR people cry all the time. It’s annoying lol

Like Fishtown? A good chunk of the guys I went to high school with live in Bridesburg now. They were from Fishtown, Port Richmond and Kensington.

There's a guy once a week on the one fishtown page "remember when fishtown was safe"... There has always been random muggings and crime in fishtown. The only thing that has changed is the price of houses and it's slightly less racist than it used to be.

Oh yeah I read the threads. Some of them are ridiculous. It wasn’t all that great when they were growing up. I grew up and still live in Port Richmond. I remember about 20 years ago, Fishtown was known for all of the pillheads. I went to high school with Fishtowners and alot of them whine how “great Fishtown used to be”. It’s alot nicer now than back then. My one buddy grew up there and says it’s way better now than then. He told me how he got jumped by Kensington kids who were fighting with Fishtown kids. He had nothing to do with the group they fought with and he was sitting on his step when he got jumped. They’re out there.

Been in Brewerytown 8-9 years and it was friendlier, cleaner and calmer when I initially got here.

Port Richmond, south of aramingo, is improving. A-Frame construction knows that PR is where people will keep moving when they find out they can’t afford to buy a place in fishtown and they are continuing to expand themselves along Richmond Street.

Yes, it drops off real quick once you pass Memphis but Richmond is getting better by the day and I really can’t wait to see what the 15 trolley coming back will do for the corridor.

I've been in West for nearly a decade and I think it's mostly the same. Although I've significantly reduced my consumption of social media during that time. I think if it remained constant I'd be inclined to say that it's worse (because that's what social media does to my perception of the world).

Rittenhouse. I like it a lot less than when I got here. Still can feel the after effects of the pandemic and the shopping isn’t the same. Feels overpriced for what it is these days. About the same as before in terms of crime/trash.
